The "criticize me" thread

Um, so what do you do here?

I think that knowing your flaws helps you improve on them and Rping is no different. If you know what you're doing wrong, or what you could improve on by others' criticism then you can improve greatly on your RP. So if you want criticism from people who have played with you, ask in this thread.

So, um...I'll start...Criticise me?

(If this thread is inappropriate or if I was wrong to make it, the DMs will lock it so there's no point in saying, this thread sucks)

Oh yeah, and don't just say you suck at rping, say something constructive.

Yahr! I like this thread as long as people don't use it to be jerks. Only post constructive critisism.

That being said, I'd like to hear from people what they think I could make better with Delgado. :P

Heh, well, your main flaw was letting Tristan get killed. Man, that guy cracked me up.

I don't have any real critique to offer up. Unfortunately, a character similar to yours named Arthan popped up at around the same time, so, I'm having a hell of a time keeping the two of them apart. Arthalan's got cooler armor though, if it's any consolation.

Uh, I didn't play Triston :p

Yes, I think this thread could become worthwhile, again, if arseholes dont use it to insult people.

From what I have seen of Tristan and DruQks, I dont have any constructive criticism. Their RP is spot on.

I'm up for comment as well.

Hmm, I think if this continues like it is we'll just have alot of people asking how they can improve. I honestly can't think of a way for Caddies or DruQks to improve upon themselves.

Perhaps saying some of the flaws you think you have and some of the things you think you're doing wrong would help the Critics?

I feel that I don't express my character enough and at times I am stumped for the right words to use to properly reflect my character. At times I feel I use the *nods* emote a bit too often and sometimes my conversations are stiff and too rigid. I have a tough time trying to maintain my plots and ideas and I cannot help but wonder if I am doing things right. So confirmation, disputes and suggestions welcome

You just plain out suck, that's why. I hope you burn in hell, you worthless whore.

Naw, just kidding. Yeah, this is a cool thread. :P I would comment on Tristan, but I haven't roleplayed with the gent yet. I'll catch him in the near future.

Any comments on Geigne?

Allright, my biggest problem with Delgado is that he has -really- low charisma, like some people have hopefully noticed. I'm having trouble deciding wether or not he should be his impolite, bad tempered self all the time. He's intelligent and wise enough to realise that running around insulting everyone isn't going to get him very far but I also try and do my best to depict his bad temper every time someone either insults him or does something stupid. I try my best to have him move command over to others while working with large groups and try to refrain from doing alot of good commanding when working with such groups, I rather try to give out one or two orders without actually going to measures to ensure people are "inspired" by those orders.

Thoughts?

Well, the only character I've really had anything to do with here so far is Delgado, and I can't really find any criticism there at all (lame I know).

OOC I find Delgado rude, abrupt and very creepy, so it's easy to put that into my character's impressions as well. If that's the impact you're trying to make, DruQks, you're doing ok

Last night in the gnoll quest, Delgado didn't really command much at all, so that seems fine too.

So much for criticism. Damn. 8)

While I'm here, what do people think of Kata? She's not supposed to be all that bright or wise (int and wis average) but has slightly higher charisma and is pretty tough and strong. She's supposed to be pretty rough around the edges, but not a total bushpig (for all those Australians out there).

I worry that I don't roleplay at all, let alone enough while questing, and at other times I'm not sure I'm getting the personality I want to portray across.

Am I getting there?

I think Delgardo is cool and have found him at times to be even polite - you let Chell Addams off with a warning when he was caught casting in the open :P

Now being on the other side of the coin and having a characetr that works witht he Spellguard I think he does a great job.

He is highly intelligent so it would make sense for him to take social queues from thos around him - that new pair of associates just hired (Kata and Shauna) are trying to improve the face of the Spellguard by being helpful to people etc - couldn;t hurt for Delgardo to see how others react to them and use his intelligence to help him adjust anti-social behaviour.

The incident in the RockBottom in could have been avoided with a little more diplomacy but that is the fun of it.

Cheers Nestek

Alright...

What's up with Quadra? You heard of this wack-job? Worst character I've ever seen; her player is a total hack.

I guess I should comment on Kata, playing Shauna I know our characters interact very frequently.

You play Kata well - at time there is a lack of consistency and I think she can be a little too easily swayed - needs more of that stubborn moody streak that was there at the beggining. I still think Kata should have Kicked Shauna's ass for stealing her diary :D

All-in-all I think you do a good job and play the role of tough fighter that can be tempered - very well.

I guess I might as well put myself in the firing line:

The two main characters I have played have been Chell Addams - my first in-depth roleplay character in Neverwinter Nights. He was meant to be a Boyscout Do gooder that never go around to dealing with his own problems - always focusing on other people.

The Currrent one is Shauna Trevail a fighter priestess of Waukeen who I am striving to portray as kind, caring and concerned on the outside but underneath is a cooly manipulative figure working to create a society of women to gather information from all sectors of Sanctuary.

Lastly my sometimes character is an Elven Priest called Canarlus - I am finding it difficult to really get into the Elven mindset of the passage of time and how that effects the Elven outlook - I am trying very hard not to play him as a human with pointy ears and some neat abilities.

Any comments on any of these charaters is welcome or even on myself as a player for those of you I have intereacted with OOCly.

Regards, Nestek

Spill thy thoughts upon Trinsel! but be gentle.

Replace the *nod* with *smiles faintly* and it fits with Aseir, too.

Ommadawn While I'm here, what do people think of Kata? She's not supposed to be all that bright or wise (int and wis average) but has slightly higher charisma and is pretty tough and strong. She's supposed to be pretty rough around the edges, but not a total bushpig (for all those Australians out there).

Not that our characters have interacted much, but the fact that you twice didn't hear what Aseir said (regarding the spellcasting permission) did give a fitting impression of her, methinks. :)

Well I haven't seen Carnalus but I can try to give my view on elves. This will most likely be me trailing out everything I know of elves and what I think the general populace are like.

First up a passage from uh...a book that I'm may or may not of been banned by Wizard or something...anway. Book of Erotic Fantasy

Love is like summer"

"Elves enjoy life and love. They tend to share themselves sexually and emotionally with elves, half-elves and humans of either gender. Their sexual relationships tend to be extensions of deep friendship. Sex is a form of sharing between two people. The sexual aspect of the relationship tends to be transitory, lasting from a single encounter of a few hours to an ongoing affiliation of a few decades, both relatively short periods in an elf's long life. The friendship from which the sex develops tends to last much longer. The traditional concept marriage, swearing to spend one's life with just one person, amuses elves who often can't understand why anyone would willingly repress themselves in such a manner. Elves as a species view the concept of eternal love as one of the greate4st hoaxes of the universe. Among nonelves, however, many classic romance tales and legends focus on elves who pledge eternal love.

Possessing remarkable long lifespans, elves often become sexual connoisseurs; with centuries to master sexual techniques in the same way they would master a sword. Most elves go through phases of sexuality (which can also last for decades or centuries), in which they have sex with one or the other gender, sampling the pleasures provided by both males and females. By definition, almost all elves are bisexual, although most find it curious to be labeled in this manner. Elves reach sexual maturity between 100-120 years.

Most elves find violent sex or sado-masochism to be distasteful and crude, although there are individuals who have mastered the finer arts of domination, honed by centuries of practice. Dark elves, on the other hand, view sex as coexisting with violence, domination and humiliation. For a dark elf, having sex with someone is a poltiical move first, with pleasure experienced being an added benefit.

Elf Pregnancy and Childbirth Elves have the longest pregnancy known to humanoids: 24 months (that's 2 years folks). However, pregnancy is a sacred and harmonius time between mother and child, as the two bond on an almost psychic level. Childbirth is gentle and easy but elven women tend to be fragile and wait another five years before trying to have another child. For some reason, they can only crossbreed with humans (aside form other magical beings). Scholars believe that humans and elves were once one race

Okay, moving on From Races of Faerun, on moon elves Moon elves are more impulsive than the other elves, and dislike remaining in one place for any significant amount of time. Most moon elves are happiest when traveling, especially across the expanses of untrodden wilderness that still survive in Faerun. This is probably the single greatest reason why they are so much more friendly and accommodating to ther races than many other elves. They do not isolate themselves from the human lands behind impervious defenses. Moon elves have watched humankind for much longer than their sun or wood elf kin, and they know that nonelves aren't as foolish and unimportant as most other elves think. They feel that engaging promising human realms such as Silverymoon and instilling elven values in these young lands is a better way for the elven race to survive and thrive than hiding away and avoiding all contact with ambious, grapsing humans. Moon elves are drawn to adventure through sheer wanderlust. They desire to see and do everything possible during their long lives. Like their allies the Harpers, moon elves believe that a single person of good heart who stands up to injustice or evil can make a big difference. The typical moon elf adventurer tends to be a wandering protector of the common folk, no a dungeon-plundering slayer of monsters.

...yeah, so I could type up stuff on other elven races but since Moon Elves are the most common I'm assuming Carnalus is a moon. Could type up other stuff but I don't feel up to it at the moment. Yeah so I hoped that helped.

For the last damn time! Michael de la freaking Rey does not portray who I am in real life!

So what about him?

I find Reyie the epitome of assiness. A true arrogant jerk and that suits him perfectly. He's very fun to play with and even funner to make fun of.

Tristan I find Reyie the epitome of assiness. A true arrogant jerk and that suits him perfectly. He's very fun to play with and even funner to make fun of.

Yet again, I'm forced to agree with Tristan. :)

[Edit] Removed comment on irrelevant criticism. ;)

de la Rey is hawt....

Maybe we should skip all the "The character is great, I see no problems" messages. Try and keep it to constructive critisism?

Otherwise I see the post going up to a billion posts in a day or two and it'll be a pain to browse :)

I agree with DruQks, also no more agreement posts without something else to add please :D

From now on :P

[removed irrelevant criticism]

I suggest if we want a vehicle for contructive criticism, we approach it a bit differently, as to be honest I really dont see this particular thread going anywhere. Perhaps, post your character names here if you are interested in being critiqued, and then people can be free to send you PM's if they in fact have something to say on the matter? I see that working a lot better...of course, neither are really ideal, if you can think of something better, do speak up. Speaking real time in IRC is probably the best method if you want some input from other players.

I would certainly be interested in hearing constructive criticism of my character, Mason Griffon. My personal criticism is that his personality isnt really distinct in any special way, apart from his actual plots and actions. His speech is pretty typical, and at times I feel he is *extremely* inconsistently roleplayed, especially on quests where I'm forced to be creative and think of new ways to act.

Youre not going to get honest constructive criticism here, because any honest criticism in public will likely by *someone* be labelled a slam. Your best bet? Dial up a DM. They are all ace rp'ers and will be more than happy to discuss ways to improve your character and the direction s/he is going in. The DM's likely know all if not 95% of the characters on here and will be a more reliable source anyways. With that said, shoot a email to the gmail. (or break them off one in irc)

You all suck. stfu noobz.

I love being helpful.

Great idea, but concerns noted above are good as well.

I'm going to start a new thread, that will allow people to have DMs and/or players PM them to keep the thread clean.

I'd suggest if you want to have full on, open and public comment that you start your own thread to keep it better organized. That way people can click on threads about people they actually have RPed with. And you can send a PM if there is someone you see that you really like or don't like.

Include any information you'd like to share about their mechanics that you OOC want people to know. If you want to keep it secret, like alignment or particular attributes, then don't include it.

Great freakin' idea.

Oi!
