Downloading portrait packs

I have downloaded the rar files for the efu portrait packs and they will not work when trying to create a new character, anyone got any ideas as to how to fix that?

Are you putting all the portrait files in a portrait folder under the main NWN directory? You need to move them out of the male and female folders as well.

I just put them all in the override folder, works fine, without making separate male and female folders.

How can you tell if they are working? I put them in a portrait folder under the NWN folder (though I had to make it myself) and left them in the male and female directories. I seem to have a lot more portraits than I remember...

I put mine in the portraits folder, but they didn't work until I moved them out of the separate male/female directories.

You can tell they're working by wandering around looking at or speaking to people. You'll be seeing portraits on people that used to have the default generic head before.

Any chance of getting the packs in .zip format? I don't have any programs to handle .rar files.

http://www.winrar.com

I'm a little unclear on what i have to do.

Just unzip into the Neverwinter Nights/NWN folder, then load up the game and they should be working when i select "Appearance"?

download portrait packs

open with winrar (see link above)

you should see a list of all files in the rar folder when it is open.

drag all files from the rar folder into a folder called "portraits" from the main nwn directory.

if the folder portraits doesn't exist, make it.

you should now be looking at a folder full of .jpg files

open nwn

make a character and the new portraits will be selectable

Fish - thanks for walking me through this but i am having some difficulties.

I downloaded Winrar and unzipped that file i downloaded to C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\portraits (A folder which i had to create)

Opened up, no worky worky. Also one thing i cannot see .jpg files, they are all .tga files.

<--=== It now works, thats some good advice!

Thanks

where do I find these portrait packs to download?

If you go on the home page of this website, then look down the page, there is a mention about the portraits and a link to the vault which will allow you to download them.

found it...wow that's a helluva small link. Missed it a couple times even when I knew where to look.

did we ever come to a conclusion wether or not we needed to remove them from the male or female folders? Also is there anything that can be used to view the .tga files outside of nwn? Thanks!

Yay! An excuse for linking this!

Yes, you do need to remove them from the (fe)male subfolders.

I just installed these portraits and some of them are good....too good.

Like the ones that have celebrity faces in them.

I found two women from Star Trek: Enterprise in them (the asian woman and the one who played the vulcan), Amy Smart, Angelina Jolie and a few others with their heads placed on suits of armor and such.

Granted it was a seemless integration of those actresses into those pictures, but seriously, I don't want my character looking like Jolene Blalock running all over.

I should think these portraits of famous people should be removed since it detracts from the immersion of this module.

I barely know who any of the celebrities you mentioned are outside of having heard their names before. I think it's fine as it is. If you don't want to see those portraits you can just delete them, while others might find that portrait to be just what their character looks like.
