DM and player co-operation concerning characters

I've been wondering how DMs and players are supposed to exchange ideas on where a character is headed. Are you (DMs) expecting that we (players) keep journals for our important characters?

I could put myself in the place of a DM and certainly could picture it being very puzzling to keep track of so many different goals and characters. Yet I still want DMs to know what I'm up to so that they'll be able to help with the famous awesome concept Cross introduces.

I know that I personally have a character planned whom I think could turn out to become several very different and very interesting things as his story concludes, but (not being very favorable towards keeping a journal/diary/log) how would I go about informing the DM team about my goals and visions?

You can always send emails. That isn't just for apps. As a matter of fact, we've gotten a number of "apps" where the person wasn't applying for anything. They just wanted to let us know what they will be up to.

IRC is also a good resource. There are DM's in it all the time and I'm sure all of us are happy to talk about characters and their stories.

I personally encourage this in my chats with players who PM me in IRC. Just throw us the occasional email to let us know what's going on. We don't bite :D

Really? *holds hand out tentatively to test this surprising turn of events* <.< >.> :P

We can really just send in updates as to what our characters are up to?

Isn't that slightly obnoxious of us and very time consuming for the DMs?

This actually sounds good. A bit like in PnP.

I think they're used to us by now.

Ladocicea and very time consuming for the DMs?

I'll bet yeah. But it's still less time-consuming than labouring over a month(s)-long DM plot, only to find out afterward that nobody had much fun because it didn't advance the PC's stories as far as the players were concerned. I imagine that'd be a royal waste of time.

E-mails about what you're up to are encouraged. Keep them concise, grammatically correct, and generally easily readable and we may even read them.

Well emails seem to be the most productive way(outside IRC) but while hoping to remain in this thread without changing "course" to much, sending email will go to you all when sent? Or does it go to one of you then the others get a fwd. Im assuming the former but I hate to a.s.s.u.m.e.

We all check the GMail account. It's really not something for you to worry about either way. :)
