Rigging the Elections.

No voting system is perfect, especially not in a low resource town such as Sanctuary.

Currently I am playing my dwarf wizard as chaotic good, though I had hoped to slowly bring him downward into the evil ranks and eventual madness.

The first step in this will be to help someone win the elections illegally, bypassing the right to choose and thus stripping the city of it's freedom without them even knowing what happened.

I have already laid some groundwork, just a basic conversation about the possibilities of pulling it off with Morgan providing the rogue to steal the blueprints of the machines, if any exist if not to get an invisible Vifur into the voting booth to take a look at the machine itself and attempt to use his knowledge of lore to decipher how it works and then his crafting skills to forge necesarry parts to alter it's function.

Though this is not guaranteed to work, it could be discovered, Morgan could expose Vifur to weaken Akevitt's position and enhance her own self image, etc.

Alot of possibilities surrounding the election, including assassination.

Everyone please feel free to give me your thoughts.

My thought would've been to keep this a secret, and take it up with the DM's. It sounds like a great idea, however.

I seond Coldburn on that. Definetly not something that should be known OOC.

I will scrap the whole idea, the only reason I can see that would have made this ooc discussion not a good idea is if people have a problem seperating ooc information from ic information.

That's something I would rather not put up with, so just delete this thread.

You can delete your post via editing your first post. If you tell people ooc they will most likely be more susptable to "finding out ic" even if its only subconsiously. I was actually told that by a certain DM on this server way back in my coa days.

That wasn't the point. The thing is, by making something like this (an excellent idea, might I add) OOC, means more or less the whole server will expect it to happen at some point.

Imagine what would've happened if everyone knew the House of Light was going to burn. People that actually had (have?) business at that place might've tried avoiding the building completely so as to not risk exploiting OOC knowledge. Furthermore, people that don't have anything to do in the Lighthouse, or aren't even regulars in Lower, might suddenly start wandering around aimlessly down there, or do a lot of the quests that requires you to pass through Lower in the hopes of picking up vital clues to hinder the complete and utter burnination that took place. Thing is, by doing so, people are actually acting even more OOC than if they'd just gone about with their business. :)

I don't care how good of a roleplayer you are, sometimes it's just too hard to keep OOC knowledge that way. I've been really trying to limit the amount I discuss my character OOC because of this, but it's hard because you come up with fun ideas and want to share and discuss them. However, most of the fun of playing with real live people is that they will constantly surprise you with something you wouldn't have thought of yourself. It's usually much more fun to find out in game. As far as whether it's possible to do something like what was suggested here, the DMs have stated pretty clearly that if you can think of something, and act convincingly in game to bring it about, they'll make it happen.

As for the whole idea i thought it already happened... of course there are the people who already have the idea but dont say anything. I thought all of the elections were rigged.... *shrug*

As for the ooc talk about your character and his actions, it is easier to not talk about anything all together, and dms are diffently the best people to go to with your ideas. I'm not sure if I have the same problems as everyone else because I rarely remember half of what I do, let alone what I am suppose to do. So if you have a short term...

To put it simply. Half the fun of IC secrets, is being SURPRISED by them OOCly. It's like...when you read a book, and someone tells you the ending. It ruins the whole process of getting to the ending, when you already know where it's going.

Roleplaying is just like a book unfolding before your eyes.

Still sounds like a good idea to me. To hell if people know OOCly, give it a go. If they can't seperate it, sucks for them. No way I'd give up based solely on the response in this thread.

Actually really, it sucks for you. Lots of people like to "win" and if they can use OOC knowledge and do so in a manner that they can get away with it without getting caught, they very well may.

Huh?

I can't see any of the main candidates in this election using ooc knowledge to foil some players IC plot. The IC letters forum is full of crap that should be kept secret, but it's OOCly out there for everyone to see.

What sucks is this:

I will scrap the whole idea, the only reason I can see that would have made this ooc discussion not a good idea is if people have a problem seperating ooc information from ic information.

No way this idea should be given up simply because people think other people aren't mature enough to keep OOC knowledge OOC. How hard is it? Yes, you subconciously know. But it would take concious action to seek the information in character, and until you have in character reasons to do so, sit on your OOC hands.

The *REALLY* secret stuff rarley gets posted on the IC forum or if it does, is only posted there after knowledge of it OOC will have no effect on the outcome. Notice you never see letters there for assasinations? There is a reason for that.

Sounds like someone's getting ready to poke back. Maybe I shouldn't poke there anymore, since I know OOCly.

Close enough.

Fact remains, it's my opinion that a player shouldn't be discouraged to the point of not trying something just cause he tried to get feedback on the idea.

Sounds like an excellent thing for a character to pursue (although quite challenging IC).

As others mentioned, as a rule of thumb plots or plans of this kind should best be pursued privately with associates and DMs, and not brought up for General OOC discussion, but it isn't a huge deal. You should feel free to continue to pursue the goal, and I am confident that by and large people wouldn't metagame these efforts.

I think that's all that needs to be said on the subject, further discussion some counter-productive at this time.
