why people make bad pc?
yeah
I concur.
amen
I don't understand. Say again?
(Edited the quote so it can be read. Sorry capt.shadow, but it is hard to read, even for me)
capt.shadow Why are the people these days making PC's that have little slave backing power, power hungry, self centered and general jackasses?? I mean look at Luke Danger ((Editor's question: Player, or character? I use the same name for both)), I mean the guy was a good guy and all but he found his away to the Underdark? Is that realistic?! I mean come on paladins wouldn't bother doing that and anyway it's all bad guys every where you go or they're just people that are chaotic PC's, right?
Well, first off all, the war between good and evil on this server has been in evil's favor lately (honestly, if it goes to evil much more I swear I'm making another Paladin!), but it used to be a shiteload of Paladins around. You know what happened? The Montezzis came around. And, in several skirmishes (where the Montezzis had a decided edge), the ranks of Team Good declined but the Montezzis gained power. The last real Team Good faction with any real power, Clan Mithrilsoul, was defeated in one major fight. You should know some of this stuff since your character actually KNEW Luke Danger (character).
And second, Danger's back story (which wasn't finished in the journal section due to his untimely death at the hands of *spoiler*) was that he met a Drow (follower or cleric) of Estrallie (origonally I intended it to be one of the Seer's rebels from Hordes of the Underdark, but when I learned of the time period, I changed it to just a organized group of them), he decided to go down and help out, realizing that Underdark needed a bastion of good for those who can't escape the Underdark. There was a cave in, most of his gear was wrecked or lost, and he found his way to Sanctuary durring the Tigereye times (then I left for a long period), and got a hell of a conncussion and spent a lot of time healing from the traps in Bibly's (he was up and about just after the Choosen invasion fo the Upper, back when he had the white hair, but I retconned it per se after he got deleted by accident) That realistic enough for you? (granted, realistic is a different term in D&D then real life considering things).
So really, I daresay that you still have much to learn of the server.
DM's, if posting the part of his back story when he came into Underdark in this thread was a bad idea, let me know and I'll delete that part.
mmm true still oh one more thing why are the good guy groups wich dont get much support they announce there attack? why are all the good guys played stuipedly?? (thanks for the respelling thing trying to find something that will help me with that )
Capt.Shadow-
You will never find an equal number of evil, and good aligned people on this server.
Paladins are rare, and I would support them becoming application only.
Evil is considered a lack of morale high ground, but can be honorable people who look at for the well being of his people (PRince MONTEZZI) While being a obvious, and vile evil being.
Good is caring for the well being of others without thought to your own gain.
At least that is how I see it, evil has a MUCH easier time on this server as well.
capt.shadow mmm true still oh one more thing why are the good guy groups wich dont get much support they announce there attack? why are all the good guys played stuipedly?? (thanks for the respelling thing trying to find something that will help me with that )Yes, I find that people are under the idea that just because you're good means you're stupid.
Good guys can use stealth too!
YES!! yes they can and they can steal and spy and think very cunningly as well!
capt.shadow YES!! yes they can and they can steal and spy and think very cunningly as well!Praise it brother!
Though I can see how some lawful characters can have issues with stealing...
that why you hire ok goodish people to do that thing for you! or you have a Lt that sort a good and dont mind getting people that can to do it
Though the overall point is something that comes up again and again, the thing I will comment on is the good = stupid. I have seen a bunch of good people played really smart and I can personally attest to the fact that certain good builds can use stealth, espionage, etc. without breaking their moral codes.
My main character on the server IS a Paladin. A Paladin of Mystra, no less. Who feels he was drawn to the Underdark by his Goddess, because of the high level of magic here.
And I am not having an issue with moral judgments or anything like that. On top of which, I am RPing him trying to enter the Spellguard or the Associates.
On top of that, I am thinking of building a second Paladin. So why would a Paladin bother? Well, he could have been captured and forced down here. He could have been following an enemy of the Church. Or he could chasing someone or something that did a great evil. Any one of these are good IC reasons for Paladins to be in the Underdark.
Team good is definately a bit lacking in the majority right now but there are quite a few good aligned characters out there. I'm playing one and she has a number of pals.
Thomas_Not_very_wise At least that is how I see it, evil has a MUCH easier time on this server as well.
PASSIVE characters have a much easier time on the server. Active evil characters have a harder time than active good characters imo. Team evil has a nasty tendency of eating the weak amongst it's own, not to mention that many evil characters get the "SERVER VS ME" effect.
Typically, too, I think neutral characters are the most numerous, and good and evil fluctuate some, but generally stay fairly balanced.
And more on topic, people who make "bad" (I assume you mean evil) PCs really add a lot to the flavor and storyline of the server. I'm sure a LOT of the big plot lines have some nasty evil player characters rolling those plots towards their nefarious goals more or less behind the scenes. So play fair with your villainous co-players! They're helping make the server more epic.
I stopped reading the previous posts due to boredom, which I am prone to, so sorry if this has already been said.
The reason why evil characters are dominant on this server:
Number 1 Reason: Dead-Bunny said it best before he left. People spend all their time in real life being generally good people. It feels good to be bad sometimes, especially if it's not in real life.
Number 2 Reason: Good guys are boring. That's why I hardly ever play them. Occasionally I'll play a character that's actually good, but is often believed evil, and that person dies pretty fast. Evil characters often have cooler goals, and more rewarding goals. It's only natural that it appeals to lots of players.
Winding Down:
I havn't personally noticed people making Jackass evil characters, in which case, it's their decision, but I agree that it's rather suckish. I mean, try to give them redeeming qualities. Every single bad guy that made it big on this server had a redeming quality, (as far as I know,)
Examples: The Scholar. Powerful necromancer, but hated violence and refused to attack sanctuary, even though it's residents had killed/captured his loyal followers.(Which I'm fairly certain he could have done.) Instead freed many many slaves from the Illithid. (so I hear.)
Prince Montezzi. Evil Evil Evil guy. Sooo Evil. However had a powerful sense of honor, which killed him in the end.
Macasta's Pirate Crew. Captured the fireheart family. Coulda killed Edgar and Clara because the randsom wasn't payed. Instead they let them go and killed their uncle who had refused the ransom.
I think there may be more that I'm forgetting....
I myself try to make each of my evil characters have a redeeming quality.
An example was Spite, or "The Card". A small time assassin who was quite insane and attempted to kill religious folk of any belief, because he believed they were the reason why his daughter was dead. Ended up dying trying to save a female character he believed was a reincarnation of his daughter.
Or one of my thieves that mugged people for a particular item they wouldn't split up with, but would leave a fair amount of money in their pack for them.
(DMs, I'm assuming most of these are either common knowledge or happened too long ago to even matter, if not, I'll delete)
Another thing, Evil does have a foothold on this server, but I was there when Team Good was a bunch of level 9s who promptly stomped out any level three bady that happened to make his move prematurely, so please, I understand your frustration, because a couple of months ago I was whining because Team Good was too many, too powerfull. But, just wait it out. These things have a way of balancing in the end. Besides, right now, alignment shouldn't matter. Sanctuary's like, having a catastrophe. Evil people are probably trying to save the place just as much as the good.
