To the Rebels and Traitors, An End

Rebels, Traitors, and Snakes among the Rocks,

What do you hope to achieve with your folly, in your foolish attempts to resist what you so loathe? By fighting this fight, one that is against all odds for you, you damn us all. You strip the innocent citizens of Sanctuary of their defenders, the blood of Sanctuary is on your hands. In your passionate prejudice against the powers that be, you have lost your reason and fallen to no higher thinking than emotions. You have raised arms against the very men and women that watched you while you slept so soundly, that have kept the Chosen at bay, the drow from our doorstep, orogs, trogdolytes, goblins, gnolls, illithid, and all manners of beasts and vile hosts of the Underdark away. You have stabbed them in the back, in a true show of vast dishonor.

Perhaps I am incorrect, that it is not mere foolishness and lack of clear thought that has put you in your current position. Perhaps it is ignorance, and the great hatred of authority. So let me explain the very definition of a term you so loathe.

Authority. It is the very heart of civility, and without trusting it, a society ceases to be. Men become beasts, ravishing one another in lusty self-interest-- and it goes without saying that this sort of state cannot last in the Underdark, or perhaps anywhere. Lower's anarchy survived by the fact that Upper Sanctuary protected it, and nothing else can be attributed. Yet I digress. It is based upon the authority of a teacher that their students learn. It is based on the authority of our elders and our fortunate citizens that have seen it to believe the surface even exists. Without the trust of authority, nothing can be realized, and every sentient being's experience must start anew. There is no progress of society, science and technology accumulate and die with those that discover or create it, and laws have no meaning.

You rebels are the pinnacle of destruction. You seek not to build, nor to fix, nor to do anything else of higher thinking or of noble intent. You deceive yourselves by painting villains of the likes of the great Commander Simms, who has spent his life protecting his people, empowering the city to grow and flourish; or men like Overseer Sheps, who did what was right and necessary to bring order and stability to our city before it collapsed under the weight of sedition and chaos. Had he not, we would all be either dead or wandering about the Underdark in hopes of finding safety like we had within our walls.

But these are not the villains you should fear, for fear awaits outside our walls and within as the Chosen screech for war. How foolish would a man be to ignore a spear in his chest to tend an splinter in his foot?

Spoiled children! Believing that a man ought be allowed to do exactly as he please! Such ungratefulness is unbecoming of even suckling newborn babes. The notion itself is mad; one ought never be free to rape, to steal, to maim or murder! And yet, you glorious rebels, this is what you have created! Have so many lost their faith in True Law that you have turned to utter chaos, leading to strife for all? It is only by the great breaching of law and order that such restrictions have been imposed!

This is why WE fight. We fight because we have faith in mankind to achieve a higher goal than bestial behavior. We believe in civility, in honor, dignity. None would propose that civilization can do no wrong, but it is ONLY through civility that the reckoning of what is right may come to BE!

UNITY-- for THREE terms, I preached this ideal. Together, we become strong, together, we manifest the dreams of our society, we enter into a new era of prosperity. We build, we grow, we survive. Until togetherness can be realized, during this time when community means nothing, and the rebels distract us from the true threats around us we cannot hope to build, nor grow, nor even survive.

Rebels and Traitors! You shall be the death of us all. This city was built by a Bresley, and at the rate we are regressing, by a Bresley, it shall be destroyed. Our only hope for survival is if you lay down your arms, or your death. The choice is yours. I will not let you kill my people and destroy my city. Should you continue to threaten my people's very existence, may the gods have mercy on you for this atrocity, for I shall not.
