[The performance given for all to hear, by Irulan Celestia]
"This work is titled 'The Watchman come to claim the Doorwarden'"
[Irulan begins shortly afterwards.]
“In twilight caverns dusky, bleak, The Doorwarden was passing through, Her form a shadow nameless, lost, clad in crimson, with skulléd face. In sightless passing, silent, crept, upon her quarry unsuspecting, I stand before you to tell the tale, what happened in this certain place.”
“I say it to you, gathered friends, this helméd girl did creep to me, And spoke of secrets never told, and tempted me to start to follow. A single step at first had fallen, then waylaid on by brigands two, In armor blue, donned sword and bow, and set to make our purses hollow.”
“They called at us, bid us to hold, advancing then with weapons drawn, Yet even as we harmless stood, the pair of highwaymen attacked. The zip of arrow flying false, and swooshing sound of blade intent on ending presently our lives, forced the Doorwarden to react.”
“And so the Doorwarden did meet the azure men with jagged spear, Until at once the Very gods had made their favorite apparent. So struck down brilliantly did they, The heavens fell upon the men. The murderers, struck blind and deaf, did audibly share their lament.”
“But far from finished is this tale, for as our heroes did escape, The pair of murderers returned, and did their best to prevent flight. And once again Doorwarden met our waylayers with spear in hand. Yet gentle care is what she took, preventing spear from stealing life.”
“But in the end one of the pair, was standing at the gates of death, The other bent with vengeful lust, pressed upon the Doorwarden. The battle, fierce, continued on, for an hour's better part, At once the brigand, watchman clad, gave into tiring effort's burden.”
“A truce was struck, and journeyed we, to narrow caverns then beneath, And deep down into hidden realm, the trio did slowly descend. To meet the master of this place, and ask of him to share his gift, And learn the secrets offered there, that few mortals could comprehend.”
“Before we reached our journey's goal, The Sergeant Cail did show true colors, He had an ambush set for us, eight more waiting for our blood. They sought to cleave we pair in twain, if not for luck they'd have success, The cavern's angel favored us, bathing killers in fiery flood.”
“Yet they were spared, for mercy's sake, our hero free then to escape, And I returned in haste, alone, to share with you this warning tale. For slapped in iron chains was I, and threatened then with suffering pain, My only crime, bearing witness, to murderous intent of Cail.”
