A Sealed Letter for the New Council

Esteemed members of the Council,

I come to you as a simple and humble member of the city. Wishing only to help others, not for myself. I am a what you would call a Paladin of the Lady of Mysteries. Also known as a Knight of the Mystic Flame.

What I asking permission for a Temple to the Goddess of Mystra. As you know she is both the Goddess of Magic and she IS Magic. Something that this place abounds with. This city has the SpellGuard yes, but that not the same as a temple. The SpellGuard protects the use of Magic. But it does not protect Magic itself! Something I feel needs to be done in this city.

This is what I wish to do: 1st) Tend to those in need, as put forth by the testaments of Mystra's teachings and with her blessings. 2nd) To provide a place where those who worship the Lady of Mysteries may pray and study/train in safety. 3rd) To help protect magic itself for future users of it. 4th) Have a place where magic can be studied, identified, cataloged and stored as needed. Also provide a location that new magic may be created. As to the teachings of Mystra. 5th) Provide a place for a select few may live.

In my wanderings around the city, I have seen what I believe are empty/abandoned buildings. With the help of the Council and someone of the Spellguard. Because of spells that are needed to be in place for the Temple. One of these buildings could be turned into the start of the Temple. But a suitable cavern would also work. As many a Temple was been build in caves on the surface.

If the Council has any questions, I would be happy to answer them. I am staying at the Last Stand in Upper. I thank the Council in advance for your attention to this request.

Signed

Elvithril Wefenen Knight of the Mystic Flame

Respected Knight of the Mystic Flame,

While your intentions are no doubt honorable, I must say that the construction of such a temple does not rank high on my list of priorities, and I would be unlikely to approve any city resources to aid in your endeavor. I encourage you to seek funding from private sponsors, and aid from any who would speak with you, but my primary concern is, and must remain, defense of the city. Anything that could draw funding away from the Watch and Spellguard, or require their attention when more pressing matters of security abound, is unlikely to meet with my approval.

I wish you all the best, however.

Cordially, Councilor Elina Adair
