Again, player volunteers are needed for a fresh character to be involved in plot related activities that has a chance of being asked to perma-death your PC.
I don't want to explain too much, but this will be a good opportunity to work as a proactive-good character. However, any alignment could be accepted -- you could be working to foil your comrades, or whatever else.
In terms of other requirements, the character will need to be young -- late teens, early 20s and generally of a human/halfling/other short-lifespan race. The prelude will actually cover scenes of your life starting at a very early age, so you needn't worry about background. Your character should have grown up as a poor orphan/gutter-urchin in the streets of Sanctuary, and we'll basically start the prelude as you being that urchin.
I don't want to give too much away, but I think this will be great, so send me a PM if you're interested in playing this long-term with a serious character.

Everyone who sent a PM regarding this, many of whom I haven't responded to:
Yes, you can come.
I'd like to run this in approximately 3 and a half hours, or 5:30 PM EST (10:00 PM GMT).
There's still room for more. Just catch me on IRC if you have a question.

There are class restrictions:
Paladins -- most likely not, with the possibility of an exception (paladin of Hoar maybe)
Wizards/Druids -- not as starting classes
Cleric -- unlikely, clerics of some deities (again, Hoar) might be okay
Monks -- not likely
Basically use your common sense.
The main thing, we start with your character as a very young age as an orphan/urchin in Sanctuary, and then fast forward through the next 18 years which are spent entirely in some really grueling slave mines. So any class would have to make sense of having been in a grueling slave mine for most of the character's life.
Characters with a thirst of vengeance are particularly encouraged.

Just so the players are aware, those who wish to follow up what happened IC'ly, will still need to send an application to join any DM faction.
