I've been pondering this, and I think that dedicated crafters, etc. Should have a way to make 'better' wand/potions. (higher caster level). I think that if the caster has GSF for a spell school, any wands/potions they make from that school , the caster level for that spell could be doubled or given a boost, to show an actual benefit from takign these feats, aside from the saves. Naturally the costs for these would be a bit more, to keep things balanced.
Wand/potioncraft
I am all for it, the standard NwN crafting incorporates levels into brewing.
When I brewed with my level 40 wizard, I got potions that wound up lasting as if they were cast by a level 15 caster.
Hi there. :)
just from a cursory analysis of this idea, its fairly safe to assume this would upset the balance the dms have worked on achieving here in terms of mechanics. I mean doubling caster level for wands and potions? pretty crazy if you ask me, but yeah, up to others I guess.
This was discussed twice already: at the time when someone asked for a cauldron, and when i was (even more) power hungry.
It was deemed too unbalancing. Besides, given the level range of the server(5 - 8 ), it's not like 2-3 lvl difference will make a huge change. Plus: DMs have plenty of other stuff to do. For higher lvl casters (Lvl 9-10), they have plenty of stuff not to need lvl increase of crafted items, although of course it would make them more to be feared.
What i do is rp like you're crafting better wares (for selling purpose), and that works most of the time. If it's brewing/crafting for personal use, 25 charges per wand gets you a long way, and don't use potions for personal use (big waste!).
Dalman's 2 cents.
This is a bit imbalancing for the degree of change that Cruzel is suggesting (DOUBLE spell level OMG). We may take something smaller seriously - such as a couple of extra spell charges per wand, but at the end of the day it's work which puts additional demand on a very tiny and currently busy EfU technical staff.
Maybe this will be visited another day pending agreement by the DM team. This is just not viable at the moment, however.
