Ha! I had an intellivision....
Here is the first RPG I ever played. It was on the Basis computer, the game was called "Ali baba and the forty thieves"...

This was my first game playing experience and still one of my best ever...

Loved it when the Thargoid's interupted your hyperpace... almost like Dm spice >_>
i had zork to start me off with the rpg/adventure stuff. then i played kings quest 1-4 which was awesome. i had the original final fantasy which at the time was a bit hard for me to sit through all of. i also had dragon warrior. i never really got into d and d rpgs until i saw a black and white version of pool of radiance on my veterinarians apple computer
Ohhhh, the original pool of radiance was awesome. For the time it really brought D & D to life. Was great.
My first RPG was.... wait for it... Bards Tale, on the commodore 64. And Ultima 2.
Off Topic much?
Anyways, being only sixteen, the first RPG I played was probably Pokemon red.
So I'm 31 and I too started on a Vic-20, moving quickly to a C-64 (This always cracks me up because my cell phone has WAY more computing power now).
Anyway my first favorites were Zork (move ahead 10'), Zaxxon ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0CW9vlVPPU), Beach Head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr9dhIH7wWU) and several other cool C64 games before getting the best game of my life when I was 12 (Pool of Radience). I got every gold box game from then on (first on the c64 then on my 8088).
Other awesome games from my past: Kings Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Hero Quest, Gauntlet (Red Warrior Needs Food!) and Legend of Zelda
Hmmm, its been a while. Commodore 64 was in the abode and there was a RPG game, although i do not recall the title.
... and some time passed. Side note: When I was a freshman at Uni, back in '91, everyone had to start using computers to type their English papers as no more typewritten papers would be accepted. Half of English 101 used DOS while half used Macs - which I was able to use quite happily.
... back on topic I played a bunch of Japanese Nintendo games while in Japan in the 90's and liked Romancing Saga III and a few others whose Japanese names escape me.

Pool of Radiance C-64 was like 4 two sided, 5.25 floppies that had to be changed depending where you went. How cool was that. 8)
Yup. that's the one I mean. And this thread totally brought back memories as well, Bard's Tail, I must have played that for 6 months on my commodore.
We totally hijacked this thread... Good to be 30+....

Pool of Radiance (Curse of the Azure Bonds) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyVZghMKrVk <(You can skip past the first 1.5 minutes of this video.)
BTW, the lower the AC the better in the old versions of D&D… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqOfuE46wLQ&NR=1
I would hate to admit the amount of hours I had logged into this game.
lazyturtle .....Hero Quest, Gauntlet (Red Warrior Needs Food!) and Legend of Zelda
Hero Quest was an awesome introduction for D&D on a board game. It took all the best parts of D&D and put them in a very simple board game. The mage had 4 hp and there was one quest with a Gargoyle in it that was hard as hell to kill! I think I still have my gameset.
And yes, I remember playing Gauntlet on big arcade machines when i was less than 10. (Blue Valkyrie your life force is running out!)
You upstarts. I played pong...before it was visual based. Yes, text based pong.

Board Game? I'm talking about the Hero Quest from Sierra....Ah..Wikipedia explains all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quest_for_Glory
But for board games..the best ever: Talisman.
Not to say that I'm old or anything, but I do remember the pile of Commodores (and Commodore games) a friend of mine had bought for cheap price when I was around 9-10.
The best part was that none of those 8 inch floppies had no labels on them, so we had no idea of what games he had bought. >_> So, logically, we started going throuhg the disks on a pretty much daily basis. We even had to guess what we had to type to get the games running (and we didn't always succeed :().
Anyway, one old game that I remember very well is Ports of Call. I think it's originally for some Amiga system.
As for Hero Quest, it's legendary! :D It's not anything special really, and it gets boring really quick, but I'd still play it if I had a chance, simply for the nostalgy value. The Finnish translation is hilarious.
Also, if you like board games, you've got to try out a game called Twilight Imperium.

I am talking about this game here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeroQuest
By far the simplest version of D&D ever created. And now it's essentially the Warhammer world which is kind of cool.
Anyone remember Lemmings? :D
You can play Lemmings here.
For those of you who enjoyed Hero Quest, I've been playing Descent
It's like the Hero quest grew up and it rocks (as an alternative to other pnp games when folks don't show.)
