Letter for Matho Jolic at Rock Bottom

Schedule a meeting between me, you, the Spellguard, and any council members who wish to come regarding the various--and I am being even-handed here--things you have said regarding me and the security of Sanctuary. You say Bane does not traffic in deceit or treachery; I agree. We will see who gets caught in his own web of lies.

Praetorius can come too.

Coronado Devir

As soon as is feasible, I would be happy to meet. You may not realize this Coronado but I saved your lives and in the unlikley event you suceeded, the lives of the city. Had you failed, you would of died-there is no doubt. Had you somehow suceeded, and the drow threat is as dire as you said, they would of easily overwhelmed us and likley attacked DURING the political turmoil. Bane forgets none and he has not forgotten you.

As a final note, since I am sure violence is on your mind-though I plan to give you no chance to do so, I will remind you the will of Bane. If you think in petty stupidity to attack me or see me attacked, you will be cursed forever by Bane. Bane answeres my prayers and he guides my actions. I am a legitimate priest.

If you think to try violence and somehow suceed, then Bane will curse you.

-Matho Jolic, priest of Bane.

I never mentioned anything about this bloody, militant coup you describe, and now it is apparent why you kept repeating such things during our meeting. We clearly have a difference of opinion. I feel leading Sanctuary to victory out of a time of great trouble will go greater lengths to further our goals than a base pandering to public opinion, propaganda spun against Cyricists and the authorities of Upper Sanctuary. Public opinion will do nothing if we do not act now and take pro-active measures against the coming drow threat.

I find your numerous untruths and some blatent lies to be blasphemous and more befitting of a priest of Cyric than of Bane. The correct way to make amends is a public apology to the people, as well as a private one to me; as you are clearly out of line.

Coronado Devir

Bane answers my prayers and continues to give me guidance when I meditate-this is proof enough to me my actions were entirley proper. If I was somehow in error and I am clearly not, I apologize to none but the Keep and Bane Almighty.

You are ignorant of the Keep and the proper will of Bane. You may seek to serve him which is commendable but he accepts only proper service. Bane makes it clear that a proper chain of command is vital. Of the few times since the Return that he had graced us with his personal presence, it has been to punish those who have ignored the proper chain of orders.

I will remind you in the recent schisms during Banes... brief journey, there was a schism among the faithful, the wizards and the priests. I was in the Keep the day Bane returned to us and I will remember this great honor till the day I die. On that VERY DAY he ended the schism, naming a priest High Tyrant and his INFALLABLE mortal representative.

I instruct you now that your dream, is false. I have the divine mandate to speak for Almighty Bane, he answers my prayers and were I to say a message he sends is false, he would not only cease to answer my prayers, but I have no doubt I would immediately be killed on the spot, so all the faithful would know its legitimacy. The will of Bane is too important for error and the Great Black Hand allows none.

It may well be your hatred of the drow has transformed this dream, or it is either a natural dream, though I think now perhaps a plant by Cyric to put doubt in your mind. Some of the other faithful question if you are truly a disciple of Bane or one of Cyric sent to sow discord in our ranks-this idea had not occurred to me till it was suggested. It seems a possibility.

I do not claim leadership of the faithful in the city, in reality I think Praetorius is more apt in that roll, he has shown tremendous ability in it so far. However YOU will not continue down a path of actions which put us all in danger and run counter to the will of the Great Black Hand. You will not put the followers of Bane or the city of Sanctuary at risk with your lunatic actions.

If any of these facts are unpleasing to you and you refuse to accept them, you are welcome to try to conquer the city in the name of Cyric or Torm, for Bane does not want you.

If you are a true vassal to the Great Black Hand and bow your head to him, then you will respect his representatives and follow the orders he sends through his priests.

-Matho Jolic, Priest of Bane

First of all I never shared the details of my dream with you. It never called for the conquest of Sanctuary. You must have heard it from Praetorius and spun it into something you could use against me. Secondly you assumed I had conspirators within the Spellguard and Council, even told me not to answer because it was so obvious you didn't have to guess. As of the time of our meeting, you said you had been in Sanctuary for a mere eleven hours ((55 minutes?)). In eleven hours you assume much about how things work here. Allow me to educate you.

If it is public opinion you seek to sway, slander will not help you. Accusing the Spellguard and Council of a huge conspiracy with no evidence, can only damage your credibility. It was a lie, Matho, an easily demolished, disproven lie. Furthermore, conjuring a ball of light in the shape of the symbol of Bane, in front of a Councilor, without a license for spellcasting, was foolish and indicative of your self-possessed and reckless nature.

Lead by example, not by fingerpointing. Instead of undermining the status quo, help uphold it. When you start acting like a priest of Bane, I will treat you like one. Slowly we can shape Sanctuary into something worthy of him.
