Truth

Written by Thrisa Catrisa, Priestess of Savras, Servant of the All Seeing Eye, devout supplicant to the Lord of Fate.

What is Truth? The knowledge of what has taken place, the information that can be proven through evidence and data, information that can be re-tested, tested, and tested again and the same results come to pass? Or is truth the words from our lips as we speak, speaking clearly, without vice, or greed. Speaking what has come, or will come to pass, without deceit, falsehood, and misleading information?

It is both. For something to be true, it must be spoken with pure intent, and based on evidence on past proceedings, When someone swears they speak the truth, are they merely saying it for your benefit, or are they trying to convince themselves of what happened as they saw it? One man's truth can be another man's lie, and the discerning of truth based upon one's word is faulty, hard, and unreliable.

That is why you need both to act in concert, for something to be true, it needs evidence to support the word of the speaker. If evidence contradicts the speaker, then you either misinterpret the evidence, or the speaker is lying, wittingly or unwittingly.

Truth is the statement that can be proven via evidence that does not contradict itself. In the lack of evidence, one must make a decision based on one's conscious, and that allows the realm of favoritism and biased opinions to take place. These decisions allocate no truth, merely who do you like more, and can be as bad as lying.

What if the person knowingly spoke a lie, but evidence turns to support his word? Does knowingly lying, even if it turns to be true, still truth? Is it truly with the concert and criteria of what can be true, where the statement is given, and the evidence either supports or contradicts? No- it is not the truth then. it is merely fact, and coincidence. The lie was given in hopes that the speaker would become better off, using deceit to better himself, and not others. Such is the way of liars, such is the way of those who speaks ill of others.
