Recently I have experienced the maximum amount of people restriction penalty.
I see no reason why you would not take more than 8 people to raid a fortress, or kill some trolls.
I know they are there for a reason (Maybe because scaling would go wack, or scaling would fail)
But I would like to see some quests where you can bring as many people you want.

I believe it's because of lagability.
DMs tend to do it, but minimize the server so that it is able to run.

For what it's worth, a polite message to a DM will most likely relieve you of the restriction, and chances are if you @re going on a quest with more than the lenient maximum, you should probably somehow be additionally challenged by a DM anyways.

While there would be some scaling issues associated with really large teams, the biggest issue is lag. 8 seems to be a magic number for how many players can be in a party before the lag ramps up.
You can ask a DM to raise the cap by 1 or 2, and if you ask really nice we might do it.
As an aside, when you're in large DM events involving more than 8 to 10 players, we ask that you form multiple parties of no more than 8, and let the DMs know who the leader of each party is for communication/reward purposes.
