Letter to the Council

[this letter is written in perfect copperplate handwriting, but on cheap local paper]

To the Council of the City of Sanctuary,

I had wondered who was charge of the wonderful library around here. I'd never thought that a city down here in the Underdark would have such a collection of texts, but I was very pleasantly surprised to see that you do.

Ah, where are my manners? I am Matthias Patson, servant of the Binder. With no temple to Oghma in this city, I feel that my services are best offered to that institution.

My skills are those of a priest, and I am a tireless researcher, accomplished at penning both mundane and arcane scrolls and texts. I can also create potions, and have skill at magical item identification through my own talents and my prayers. As such, I would be more than willing to produce lore-enhancing potions and scrolls at cost as a service to the library's visitors. It would be both my pleasure and a tribute to the Binder to spread such knowledge.

Should you offer me a position as an archivist for the Library, I would do my utmost to pass along any records I make myself, and any books I find on my research expeditions outside the city. In exchange I would gratefully ask for a small research stipend to cover materials and the purchase of books, and permission to maintain a shrine to Oghma somewhere on the premises.

May you find knowledge wherever you seek it, Scribe Matthias Patson
