Theon Arnen was a friend of mine. As he departed this city for Traensyr, he knew what he was getting into. He saved this city from the attacks of savage demons and driders. He was one of the few heroes I have met here. And he is one worth remembering.
As he left, and as I bid him and many others a final farewell, he asked me this favor. Something he had done for many others, and now tasked to me. He spoke for those departed of this world with the best objectivity he could conjure. For many weeks, I have been writing this... but nothing seemed to come close to the reality of who this man was, and what he stood for. It finally came to me that I could not make a man from the scratches of a pen on paper. I cannot do justice to Theon, but I must try.
And here is the Speaking of Theon Arnen:
Theon Arnen was a priest of Kelemvor. His history is unknown like many of our people. He was a man of the present, a man of action. He did what he believed to be the best for every man, regardless of the consequence to himself or others, and yet continued to show the compassion and sympathy to the living. His malice towards the undead that loomed below our feet, that threatened this city, was powerful indeed. Unlike many men whom are driven with such ambition and/or passions, Theon remained a stable thinker, a rational man-- a praiseworthy feat.
Arnen's early work was to establish rapport amongst the population, a task at which he easily succeeded with his amiable (although somewhat austere) nature. He offered the services of his kind to the people, and then to the government. It was my pleasure as a councilor to have a man so devoted to his job working for the City Mausoleum. At this task, he succeeded and thrived, even going above and beyond the call of this duty. It was unfortunate that in performing the task of cleansing the undead that two forces, although allied, collided- the law enforcers of the town were forced to bring some irresponsible uses of magic (being used to slay undead) under control. Peace was soon re-established, and Arnen found a means of achieving his goal in a suitable manner.
During all his work in combatting the undead, tending to the fallen, he stepped over the typically boundaries yet again, serving the needs of the fallen in Lower Sanctuary and beyond. As the bodies in Lower mounted from the tensions of the growing House Montezzi, Arnen maintained a level-headed approach towards the situation. And he succeeded- the dead were spoken for.
In the end, his desire to serve and protect the city, yet again rising above the call of his position, won out. He marched alongside some of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and paid the ultimate cost for the security of this city. It was an honor to know him, and it is with great regret and gratitude that I bid to him my final adieu.
