City of Arabel

What's the fuss all about? I hear a lot of EfUers complain about Arabel, but since this is the first PW I've played on I have no frame of reference to compare it to.

'just curious. Don't worry, I'm not planning on leading a mass exodus or anything.

It's a server many of us have played on in the past.

Check it out at www.nwncityofarabel.com

Well, I'd like to say, people shouldn't be complaining about Arabel for a number of reasons.

1) Derogatory comments towards other servers is unacceptable in #EfU, forums, and in game. The DM team as a whole feels very strongly about this. We'd like our server to be supportive of the NWN community as a whole, and bad mouthing other servers does nothing to contribute to that.

2) The City of Arabel server played a big part in this server being possible. Most of the DM's have their roots there, as do a substantial number of players. Much of what we learned about persistant worlds, we learned there.

3) We are not in competition with CoA, or with any other server for that matter. We believe that having a number of strong options for NWN PW's is good for the community. More options attracts more players, and which brings in more ideas. Players are likely to move from server to server over time, giving everyone opportunities to interact with a wider number of interesting players that all have something different to bring to the table.

Well said Thrawn - I agree wholeheartedly

Each server has it's own flavor and style - I happen to really like EFU and was not so fond of a couple of others I have had a look at but see that as no cause for bagging / bad mouthing another server that numerous other people realloy enjoy.

Cheers

Heh, sorry. Hopefully fielding the question isn't violating EfU's server rules -- just answering it. I'd be more than happy to delete the thread if you want or rephrase the question with a more neutral or positive tone.

This is what happens when I'm looking at message boards while drinking scotch.

So long as it's good scotch, Quasi, yer forgiven.

CoA Is a good server, i'd say most of the player base used to play there :P

Not me. I found EfU first.

Nothing else will do it for me now. 8)

LOl- Maybe you should get out a bit and experiment - who knows you may enjoy what you find out there

CoA is a great server, for a variety of reasons, mainly playerbase, IMO. I left there for personal reasons, but I still love it. However, after coming to EfU, and learning a bit about it, I've come to love it equally as much, if not more. Personally, I think the DMs here are more helpful and interactie, but thats my opinion only.

Both are great servers.

MadCads

To be honest, I might give it a try when/if I get sick of or need a break from EfU.

For now, I don't see how I'd have more fun there than here. :P

I still play on CoA from time to time. I like CoA, but I find EfU to be slightly better across the board... standing on the shoulders of giants and all that.

I like the setting here, Sanctuary is easier to not metagame with because NPCs don't represent say 1000 commoners per NPC commoner. Plus I like the feeling of complete and utter hopelessness I get here.

Everyone has a coa story, be it good, bad, or indifferent. Thrawn's right, this server wouldn't come into existence without that one. The fact that this one is starting to reach the % of carrying capacity as coa, and coa still packs them in, confirms the notion that the community needs options, and a well crafted, scripted, and staffed server will succeed despite there being others out there.

(word of mouth and bioware interviews help too)

with that said, i think coa stories or beefs should be kept in private irc chat or pms. its good policy.

Arabel is a cool server. Like myself, many people in the CoA community came here because this server was founded by CoA players, and because after playing on that server for two years it kinda loses it's flavor. :?

Yeah, I am an ex-CoA refugee. But simply put, the entire flaire, style, and....style of EFU is simply amazing. It's not an insult to CoA that I love EFU so much more, it's a credit to EFU.

I'm mostly an ex-CoA player. I still hop on from time to time. It's a good server, and it's where I really started on RP PWs (Athas Reborn was technically my first, however, I wasn't too fond of the Dark Sun atmosphere--I prefer Forgotten Realms). If I had more time and if my CoA characters knew more of the current character base there, I might play there more often. But I was with CoA for about a year and EfU offers a fresh playing field and a variety of new experiences. I guess bottom line is: I'm glad I was introduced to EfU and they're both good servers.

Both great servers.

Have beef with CoA, keep it private.

Or better yet, take it to their forums.... :P

Question was fine. I'm just disappointed to here that word is spreading about the other server via someone badmouthing it. I had about a year of enjoyment out of that server before moving over to EfU.

Agreed, Thrawn. Excellent server, and it really shouldnt be badmouthed, especially if the 'badmouther' is using EfU to do it.

[Necromances this post] I would like to say something if I might. (After all what good are forums if ya cant talk on em?) I played and STILL play CoA. Balancing it and EfU on my hands and I have to tell you it's great! :) Eh, EfU has a ton of quest's Great RP and a great scripting system and team. CoA has a ton of quest Great RP and a great system and team. I find it enjoyable juggling the two servers and it really is great. Only problem with CoA is da 55/55 wall

And now you know...The Rest of the story

I found CoA first. But I never really played it :/ It seemed cool and all, but my computer back then couldn't handle the big city. Let alone my laptop now.
