So, are we going to get mounts in the underdark? Will they be horses (if they can be anything else)? I imagine the terrain of the underdark makes it hard to go by mount but there might be a few areas that is would be nice to have a steed in. Not to mention those of us who are on their high-horse really can be. And it would be cool to see paladin mounts. If we won't have mounts does that mean forever, or not yet?

Actually, if you would let me, I can do my best to explain pros and cons to horses (or mounts) in the Underdark

Pros:

The DMs could now make mounted enemies Players can move quicker between areas (though not as quietly) More versitality in combat

Cons:

Explaining HOW mounts suddenly appear with a reasonable IC excuse (I would suggest having a bunch of players come down being part of a horse breeding group with a few horses and start breeding them in Sanctuary or something) Storing mounts (a persitantal nightmare) Fair distribution may be a problem, because once implemented, more players then there are IC horses will be galloping around (maybe make owning a mount an app, even Paladin mounts?)

So to sum it up, maybe Players shouldn't be able to use mounts (except under circumstances that a DM dictates, for example, stealing a slaver's mount to escape), but enemies and NPC's will.

Just by 2 cents, but it'd probably be a nightmare to script into the game and explain

Plus they would need to script what areas you can actually use the mount in. I do not want someone running in to Last Stand while mounted for a "quick rest". Changing all that could be potentially be a lot of work.

I suppose horses would bring atmosphere, but if they are added, I rather have DMs implement them properly with time and thought. The patch brings more additions that might be worth exploring first...

Why can't horses be brought into the Last Stand? Are there butts too big? Its common IC sense to just leave it outside, where it can be jacked.

ICly, because there are no horses in the underdark. And the underdark is not as flat as it appears making travel difficult. Then we have the, "Horses could not survive down here.'

...And NPCs would react negatively to a person leading his horse into the LastStand. This would also be very commonplace, and a headache for the Dms. Also, horses don't do steps well. They don't do steep steps, they don't do lifts, and nearly all NPCs would stop them from going into buildings. Since they would make traveling through the underdark noisier and slower, due to the uneven ground... It would be a hassle.

Right not, its just as much hassle OOCly for the DM crew. Just leave it along for now.

Lansert and EQUESTRIAN (thats for you Ebok, with love) proponents, this is something that the players have been discussing for some time now. Ebok wasn't trying to "crush your spirit" or "hurt your feelings" so please don't assume that sort of nonsense. This isn't personal, it's just a simple fact that the majority of players realize the big negatives that go with having mounts in the EfU gameworld, with only few positive benefits.

And the DMs have all pretty much said no.

And I hope having or not having mounts in EfU is not "your spirit" on a sillier note. >.>
