Alignment Changes

I was on a DM quest, where my party got a bunch of evil points for rushing a fugitive to disrupt his ritual, causing his hostages to explode. The DM in charge whacked all our party with the Alignment Stick, including two of us who were dead and couldn't have intervened. My bard/cleric got busted from NG to TN and can't cast divine spells any more.

Now, is that supposed to happen, or should we not get the points for something we couldn't have attempted to stop?

Also, what is the best way to accumlulate some "good" points or even "chaotic" points to re-align myself? The quests never seem to give them, so is it only at the behest of a DM?

I don't know why this has come up. I already corrected the whole party's alignment at the time of the quest, along with resetting the Fugue'd adventurer's alignment back to what it was pre-quest.

Get a DM in game.

Righto. That is odd then, because I do remember getting a load of Good points off you near the end of the quest. It wasn't enough to push the alignment back into NG though.
