Sanctuary Library Notices

A sturdy sign is staked into the ground in Lower, next to the door to the right (when coming down) of the main staircase, it reads "Sanctuary Library, Lower Branch". The Sanctuary Library sign in Upper is polished to a sheen. These notices are found tacked onto the fronts of both buildings, inside them both, and within Sanctuary's many inns.

IN THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE, AND TO THE BENEFIT OF ALL THE PEOPLES OF DUNWARREN Decreed the 20th of Ches, year 153, 1375 Dale Reckoning

The Sanctuary Library has as its founding principles:
  • Neutrality, by recognizing that knowledge is imparted upon all men by Reality and the Gods, without political slant or inherent nature of any kind.

  • To work continuously to bridge the gaps that have formed themselves in the bosom of our community, so that we may all welcome the future with open arms, not as a divided township but as an united community.
In the furtherance of these two ideals, and in recognition of the segment of the Dunwarren population who, either by desire, by force, or by law cannot access the Sanctuary Library building within Upper Sanctuary, the Sanctuary Library will soon be opening a branch within Lower Sanctuary, to the right of the great staircase going down. This branch, a private institution in free association with the Sanctuary Library, and under the same management, will be open and accessible to all persons, regardless of race or creed. It will operate under the same principles and duties as the main Sanctuary Library. No one will be denied entry, save those who seek to destroy or exploit the knowledge contained within or the safety of its premise.

Within five days time, the 25th of Ches, all works within the Upper Library will be scribed and added to the stacks of the Lower Library Branch. Retroactively, an author must specifically specify when submitting their work if they do not wish it to be duplicated into both libraries, and in which library it should reside. Authors of previous works will have the five days to contact the administration if they do not wish their work copied.

The library administration hopes this action will help further the spread of knowledge, and build bonds of association and friendship between the authors and scholars of both Upper and Lower Sanctuary. We encourage the peoples of Lower Sanctuary, most previously unable to submit works, to take out their quills and ink, and share.

Furthermore, both branches will be offering the following services:

  • LESSONS IN READING AND WRITING: Language is Deneir's gift to all intelligent beings, it is pure in form and timeless. An oral story passed down through the generations changes, and ultimately losses much of what it first had. Written word remains constant; you hear the story in the words of its author, unchanged and unadulterated. If you or someone you know is unable to read or write, then come to the Sanctuary Library. The teaching is free, and it is a boundless gift and invaluable asset to possess.

  • RESEARCH ASSISTANCE: Per the guidelines first established by the departed Curator Ehring, viewable in both branches, the Sanctuary Library offers citizens support, funding, and it's tireless enthusiasm towards avenues of research they wish to pursue in conjunction with us. Take advantage of this opportunity to pool knowledge and resources, to learn in community, and to prosper in knowledge and enlightenment.

  • EDITING AND WRITING ASSISTANCE: Recognizing that the backgrounds of many of Sanctuary's citizens lack the temple or private educations that provide a solid base in Deneir's gift, literature, the Sanctuary Library will provide, free of charge (with only the expectation of donation, for those of means), editing and any other assistance required in the writing and publishing of literary works.

  • SCRIBING SERVICES: For those persons who are disadvantaged, be they recently escaped slaves, or refugees, who cannot afford the services of Sanctuary's premier scribe, and for those persons who wish the sworn privacy and confidentiality provided by one of Deneir's faithful, the Sanctuary Library will provide letter writing and scribing services, at minimal or no charge, depending on means.
Lastly, the Sanctuary Library is willing to buy all rare books, tomes, scrolls, artifacts, and pieces of historical interest, be they magical or otherwise. It will also always accept generous donations of these things from those who wish to help freely spread knowledge.

Direct any inquiries, requests, or other correspondance regarding the Sanctuary Library to HERSCHEL HUYGENS, at either branch, and always feel free and welcome to come, browse the stacks, and speak with the administration in person.
