Updating Greycloak Concept

As events unfolded and as characters slowly died, the position of Warden has fallen into my Hoarite characters hands, Immacolata. Looking over this faction I liked the idea, but it seems most of what makes it a fun group is the chance of DM quests and being knightly, which I’m sure, can get old. The group is very small at the moment, so I’ve thought of some things to put some life back into it. :)

Going over the original profile I noticed the mission statement has similarities to a fanatical religious movement. i.e. performing the will of the gods without boundries, reporting and then acting, etc. So i'm pushing some of the structure towards the medieval inquisition/vigilante group.

Greycloaks will be required to report the religious and secular crimes of citizens to the Order. As dossiers are filled out and officials become aware of just how 'vile' or 'blasphemous' certain individuals are, the Order will attempt to apprehend and reprimand them. This will most likely involve taking their stuff and getting them to "point the finger at others", or possibly death if they are particularly unrepentant or unhelpful.

There are a few new Titles to take in the Order. The ones worth mentioning are;

Seneschals, this will be for Lawful Good characters who are responsible for maintaing the dossiers of heretics, and suggesting the worst offenders to the Warden and Inquisitors.

Inquisitors, this is for the Lawful Neutral characters who will be responsible for ganking and interrogating the heretics.

This is my first PC faction group, so any questions or suggestions will be appreciated.

I have to say, this sounds like a very neat tribute to the White Council's Wardens in Jim Butcher's Dresden Files novels. A subtle nod to them in the concept, name of the leader and uniform of a grey cloak, but not a direct rip by any means.

Well done to you, and I look forward to seeing a bunch more paranoia and backstabbing between the factions. I've only been here a week or so, but this server's great.

Not the direction I had in mind for the Greycloaks when I played Luke Danger (should of left notes behind about that!), but all right. Should bring some intresting RP moments when the Greycloaks change.

Well, good luck with the Greycloaks Lee, it's quite a challange, trust me. Especially if your going to practically be breaking Sanctuary law (going at the Shadow Tribe eventually? Just asking for New Dunwarren to get destroyed! Nevermind several, other's with the aura of evil.)

Hot.

Harlow Penrose approves of this.

Inquisitors from New Dunwarren may get some negative reactions from the general populace!

You might find Arkov's profile of New Dunwarren to be a good read, if you haven't taken a look already.

There's also an as of yet unrepresented new priest of Tyr at the temple. The Greycloaks are under the temple's direction, and straying from a lawful good ethos may risk your faction support, or your dismissal. Without knowing your character at all, I'd suggest sticking to the poetic justice aspect of Hoar as leader of the Greycloaks. You may also find the old posts in the Greycloak forum to be of interest, as they're full of many unfinished battles, plots, and goals. The terms of the reunification treaty between New Dunwarren and Sanctuary have never been fufilled, and may be an interesting thing to pursue with the faction.

All that said, the Greycloaks of the past were full of many varied characters, some of whom were far less good and lawful than others, and were at one point a very fun and active faction. Good luck getting them back on their feet!

If my application falls through, I'm very intrested in doing this.

I suspect the Inquisitors will not be liked. 8) Yes they are the Orders Lawful Neutral thugs. They will be set on people the Lawful Good Seneschals find beyond redemption. However the Hoarite warden will be demanding a name on a regular basis if the Order swells. We'll see how secret Immacolata can keeep the Inquisitors and what trouble she'll get herself in. :D

I would like a little help finding information on the New Dunwarren and Sanctuary reunification treaty. My attempts at searching the forums haven't gone so well.

In reaction on ideas of others, must say few words.

The Greycloak faction, after death of Luke Danger, last man of old concept, are on minimal position. They are few, weak and without chances to future - if stay in torpor. However, EfUs old and experience players are not here in this time. Our group is relatively new (no only characters, but players too) and continuance in old ways have no future. In this, the Greycloaks died slowly, for players unconcern. In game, many of politicians and prominent representatives make against ND concepts.

Is only one way to survivance as the faction. We must change our concepts, stay in power, make a politics. Its new concept and progress in faction. It is possible, that lead us to downward. But quickly and interest, not slowly and desinterested. Or, the second alternative, Greycloaks shall go forward.

Then come to us! Greycloak seeks more mans and womans, fighters, monks, spies, merchants! Our faction can stay in strong position! Many new ranks in Order wait fot you! Contact Warden Immacolata or send letter to temple!

I am in full support of this. New Dunwarren won't like it, but in the end, what are they going to do? New Dunwarren has about 30 NPC's total and I'm pretty sure if they play their cards right they can grab the pro-Society crowd at least.

Suggestions:

1. Be Anti-Shadow Dragon. You win the support of the Gnomes in New Dunwarren.

2. Be vocally anti-Aberrant. You win the support of the Society.

3. Work toward separating from Old Sanctuary once again due to the breaking of the Reunification Treaty, and alliance with the Shadow Tribe.

4. Proceed as planned once you've won the support of the other two groups and separated from the kobold lovers.

The Temple of Tyr will turn against you, in the end, but hey - that's when you execute the old fashioned necksnap and take it over.

I might actually create an alt character to hook up with the new Greycloaks and help out. I really want to see you guys be successful!

lol. The Greycloaks start to take off a bit right after Danger dies. Coinicidence? :)

The Crimson Magician lol. The Greycloaks start to take off a bit right after Danger dies. Coinicidence? :)

I haven't even seen a graycloak sinse Luke Danger actually.

It's a coindidence.

I actually had plans for the Greycloaks, but since Danger got ganked before he could implement them (not leaving record of what changes he planned probably wasn't the smartest idea. . .) they weren't implemented.

I just hope I don't have to make another Greycloak to save the faction.

Well, the answer is: It's Coinicidence. And well, I was the most active Greycloak player, but a lot of time was spent as a Watchman as well, so you probably only registered the helm and chain, not the cloak.

Doing things like this is exactly the point of being the leader of a player faction. The leader (mis)appropriates the role to fulfill his/her own agenda*. It may cause discontent, but that's pretty much what makes it interesting.

* his/her own agenda might also be exactly in line with the faction's original charter

As a former leader of this faction, I can say that I did leave a swath of plots. This wasn't because i didn't try to follow them, it's because, the players involved weren't around to do so.

the main thing is keep the faction engaged and conflicting with other factions, that'll keep things moving.

I tried, but often times I was the only one around (not to short change the other greycloaks I recruited), because of my play schedule.

However, it's a great faction with a deep, long standing history that's rare among player led factions and it's got a lot of potential.

Thanks. We've picked up on the reunification treaty now and hope that will keep us going for awhile. Not absolutly sure how to approach this. Any suggestions would be great!

Know what you mean about players not being around. Im not sure anyone is keen to join a faction with such a new player as leader, but we do have an Iquisitor now!

I would not mind players joining and trying to direct the Greycloaks differently either. Friction seems to be the name of the game in player driven plot, so dissadents are welcome. :P

Are there any Greycloaks left alive IG that are still being played?

Just wondering. I've been trying to find one IG but haven't seen one outside of one PC that doesn't get played very often.

Don't mean to deal with IC things OOC'ly, just wondering if i'm chasing something that doesn't exist.

Thanks.

I play some other concept, and with Levecque log on for short times. If you send me PM, we can meet in some time (i play between 22:00 and 24:00 GMT)

You know, this sounds like a really great idea. I look forward to seeing you guys IG, and hope you have much success, hopefully my little faction will bump into you eventually, and we can have a faction war or sumthin'. Until then, great ideas. I think it's about time for team good to have their overbalanced power. :P

I would join, but team evil/ chaotic neutral is where my loyalty lies.
