Roleplay? why when there no reward?

Hi I was wondering since EFU is an RP server, If the DM's, could be a little more generous in handing out RP Xp I play a bard among other things, and am trying my best to be a good bard, who is perfecting his art I perform songs,(that I have written), and can often be found juggling in public places,(much to the delight and annoyance of other PC's), If I were playing a Pen and paper game of D&D the DM would reward this Mind you I don’t need any special encouragement, but it would be nice So come on DM's don’t be so tight and Be a bit more forward in giving people Small Xp rewards if they are RPing their PC's class skills

The DM's can only be in so many places.

Just keep RPing and you'll get a reward, eventually.

He's right. You'd be suprised what you can get XP for. Once, I made a sending and ended it with Jafar pulling a prank on my character and leaving it on after the message was finished.

So just RP, if you do something cool, the DM's will give you a little bit of XP, IF they decide that they should. If not, well, don't pester them about it.

I think they would if they could be omnipotent, Thf1138.

Sadly, in a 30+ player server, only a handful get DM attention at any one time. And it tends to be people who are in group, factions, clubs , parties or whatever as it is easier to deal with this many players if you focus on many at any one time. :]

So, if you have an entertainer? Hook up with a tavern! Pissing Crone is looking for some entertainers, way easier to make a name for yourself if you are backed up by people.

Attract the DMs attention by being consistent in both frequency and quality. I've had a character of mine hold a party where twenty plus people showed up but, as far as I can tell, no DMs paying attention whatsoever. But at other times, I've had DMs giving me XP just when my character is sitting down in a chair talking with another, or locked in a room dealing with emotional crises, or discussing faith and religion and personal redemption in some cave.

But, despite all of this, RPing is its own reward, allowing your character to develop, change, think.

It's not always obvious in the ways DM's reward you either. It's not always just xp plopped on ya. Remember, you never really know when a DM is watching. It could be various things that at first glance you might not realize. Could be more/less spice on a quest. Could be a nice loot drop. Could be a lucky break when you least expect it. The list goes on.

And as Caster said RPing really is it's own reward. I think a certain PC shall always have a very special soft spot for me just watching the way she evolved. What she started out as and what she evolved into were in some ways very different. And damn was the ride a fun one. ;)

Roleplaying is fun too!

I once got XP for one liners, like,

"Do you sell weapons that will allow me to hang intestines along the walls and instill the fear of Garagos within them?!*

Yeah you'll often times get xp for saying something truly awesome.

As for bard, a bard isn't always a performer and can be a multitude of things, not only that, they are also an incredibly powerful class with little to no constraints!

People roleplay singing and performing all the time! If they got xp for it every time, the fighters might argue they should get xp every time they spar! Not to mention how many sinisterly powerful people would be around due to this.

You will get xp for truly awesome roleplay, not just regular roleplay as thats just the standard of the server. Roleplay is a reward in itself, we play here because we enjoy roleplaying, not because roleplaying earns us xp, even though it does at times!

Excuse my poor grammar it's terrible as usually I'd wager.

I will DO this for you my friend!

Lol. One time one of my favorite characters was dying permenantly and I said something cool that I forgot about. Still, I think I got 400 xp before I died. that or I read something on my cpu wrong, but I'm pretty sure the DMs gave me an xp bonus. Which helped me out a lot, by the way.

I wasnt asking for am Xp bonus for myself, As an old fart (44)who's been playing D&D since he was 11,( 4 classes fighter MU thief and Elf), I understand that Rp is it's own reward, And i dont expect that every time I Rp i get more Xp I was just aksing, Dm's to reward execptional RP, but it seems they do so I withdraw my comment

Supposedly roleplaying characters is good fun. ;)

You will find dedication to a character, be it his or her faults and strengths, consistently played will merit roleplay XP from DM's that are watching you though.

Wcsherry has an important point here. Dont roleplay a character because you want phat loot / xp whatever. Play a character because you are enjoying playing that character. The loot / xp is a by product of your roleplay not the point of it. If you want to be a quest machine interested in only coins and loot, perhaps you should roll up a mercenary fighter or barbarian and play a character like that.

I do remember pulling out the old harp in the fortress to play once, and getting 250 xp for it. And the comment, "Elizabeth's music is hauntingly beautiful" from a DM.

That was one of the most heart-warming moments of my time in EfU.

I remember wcsherry gave me 1xp once for hitting on the Yrre twins.

Wizards are best for that.

Joking aside, from the numerous "let's quest" tells i get each time i log on, i feel pretty safe to say that there are many people who enjoy that aspect of the video game. Don't look down on them, if such was the message conveyed. We all enjoy the game in whatever way.

The DM is an excellent crew of creative and altruist folks giving us free entertainement of professionnal quality. But you can't/shouldn't expect them to see every cool rp stuff that happens. From what i read they enjoy any honest player who's having a good time.

Just do your stuff. If you really want to draw attention, though, i'd suggest you do things that involve as many other people as you can, and not just having a cool concept you enjoy playing.

My 2 cents.

deputy cool gave me 20 exp every time i made him laugh once but then i just bashed my face against the wall for exp

I got 20 XP for Fryar's hat.

You can earn plenty of xp through RP, keep at it and be awesome and you'll see what I mean. It is indeed its own reward though, this server is about RP in the first place. Though, I'll admit, RPing a bad ass lvl 11 cleric of Bane is a lot of fun (I assume). You're not likely to find someone reach that level in the first place with some DM rewards for killer RP.

Olwa That was one of the most heart-warming moments of my time in EfU.
Now don't cry Olwa. :D

It also depends on which dm is watching. Some will give xp for stuff other dms wouldn't, and some will give more xp than others. Others may simply forgive to give a reward. I had two different characters speak with npcs, one got 50 xp when he was finished, the other got 100.

Well, I've not been doing any RPs tuff til I started on this server a couple of weeks ago, but I have to say "because it's a laugh".

I don't think I've ever got any DM XP so far, but I've liked how RPing puts in a plot elements that I love in single-player games but not in usual multiplayer stuff where you get the plot in cutscenes and NPC dialogue, and just gaming chat off the PCs.

It's turned in-game newbie issues chat into a game in itself, as instead of a "hey how do I do X guys" in generic chat, I have to go find a likely-looking PC and get a conversation round to it. That led to a nice bit of gameplay yesterday where I traded the knowledge of alchemist's fire for a lesson in the use of summoning reagents. That wouldn't happen in a normal multiplayer game, where politeness says you keep explanations simple, but here it was a cool bit of theatricals.

Sometimes it’s the DM’s that deserve the XP. I still laugh every time I think of that goblin that “Throws himself off the cliff in despair!” when the Mithrilsouls breached a goblin barricade and swarmed up the hillside. It was the funniest thing ever and I would have given the DM XP if I could.

...and this is why all online communitites need a "moderator/GM/DM Beer Fund Page" :P
