What is the diffrence between CoA and Eftu? Secondly is EftU up and running yet?
What is the diffrence between CoA and EftU
The most undeniable difference is that we're afforded a bit of leeway by our non-canon, non-lawful setting.
-Cross (And no, it isn't up yet.)
There will be preludes to the story that is EFtU in six days though, if you are interested in sampling the module.
As for going actually live, it will take a little longer.
I finally get to have my drow girl harem. That is the real difference.

How does one get to sample such delights?
I've tasted the loins of EFU and they were sweet.

I'm a little unclear on this too. I'm not sure what is happening in 6 days, or 5 now, or however many it is.
Can you just give us brief details on what you're planning to do and if there's anything we're, for lack of a better word, expected to do?
Really, The Escape in 6 Days is nothing but the date Howland's electricity company cuts him off from over-due checks. The REAL escape is running from the repo-men. :P
First: Welcome, Dond. There are lots of differences between CoA and EfU, although lots of similarities as well. Probably the easiest thing to do is read about our vision for the server, and then if there's a specific question or comparison you're interested in feel free to ask.
- Regarding our countdown and preludes -
In a few days we hope to open up a very incomplete server for large-scale testing and DM Prelude Quests (essentially, a DM quest centered around your character being enslaved/escaping from slavery/finding Sanctuary/etc.). I had hopes for opening up a more unsupervised beta experience, but the simple fact of the matter is that the majority of our quests (i.e. the non-fedex or hunting quests) are not repeatable and not hooked up into a working quest system.
This will be an opportunity for people involved in the project to start their first PC, start to explore the world, and otherwise get a taste for what the server is like. Please note that as some fundamental stuff remains incomplete, we ask people to not yet advertise on our behalf.
If you're already here, though, and if you're willing to look past the technical issues we're still struggling with, then do please consider yourself cordially invited to participate as a guinea pig when this does occur.
Howland, so in 5 days, the server will be "opened" to the public? English isnt my first language, so I am just trying to make sure that i am not reading some of it wrong.
Also, is it free for all the community or are you selecting people for the trial?
*tries to convert on Howlands behalf*
O'louth I think that in 5 days or whatever the count is atm, that the DM will run the Preludes as a pre-story for some chars that want to be involved in it. Basically it sounds like it will be anyone that's here and read about it, but the server will not technically be fully public as some of the quests and scripts and things still need some work. Hope that helps and if I'm totally off base, I'm sure a DM can set us straight(er). :D
It was said in irc, that the preludes are more to those characters that have been born in the surface and brought to slavery. Is this true? I would like very much to try EfU out, but since my first character I have planned has been born in the Underdark, the preludes then wouldn't be suitable for her?
For all you lot worried about the preludes.
Watch this space. Will hopefully wrangle some greater and more detailed information on the preludes by the end of today - (G.M.T. 8) )
As i understand it, we're going to post some times and basic information about the preludes and what's going to happen before we start them. I.E. (This isn't accurate, just for an example!!!) we'll have a 'prelude on the 5th of November at 10p.m. in the Drow mines', if your characters background fits/you haven't got a background, and you want to sign up, then you'll put your name down and join the fray on the day.
They aren't arbitrary- you don't HAVE to have a prelude, it'll just for something for flavour, and hopefully good fun.
As far as the server properly going up 24 hours a day, don't think that'll happen by then but you'll have a taster of life in Sanctuary at the end, it's all done using the official module.
There may even me some secret slots for those that aren't going to 'play' that particular character, but want to be involved in the prelude anyway. We'll see.
The server will be open to anyone who knows about the project already, -and- meets the following criterion:
(1) They understand that we're not ready to go "live" as it were, and we're an incomplete product (2) They will be tolerant of our initial imperfections (3) They understand they're signing on like alpha or beta testers for a software release (4) They're willing to follow our ground-rules and not take advantage of things
I envision the following sort of things happening:
(1) Optional prelude DM-quests organized on the forums or IRC. Basically, a handful of players will schedule a time with a DM to "escape" from Traensyr, or be captured on their surface village, or whatever else. (2) Mini-DM quests for anyone who happens to be in town, a chance for some of us who've not DMed before to get our feet wet (3) Opportunities for exploration (4) Rat-hunting, rothe-hunting (small bounties on both) (5) Opportunities to meet faction NPCs (6) Maybe other things
No idea for how long this "alpha teaser period" will last, but afterwards we'll get straight back to work and clean up the remaining issues as well as whatever is discovered during this test.
*nods* Sorry for making you rewrite yourself Howland, but i understand perfectly now:P
thanks
Hopefully we will see Etfu go live sometime this month.
