Forum issues/bugs here!

The forums and the rest of the EfU website have been moved to a new web host that has no monthly bandwidth cap. Some steps of the installation had to be done manually and we are running a newer version of phpBB than we were before the switch. If there are any issues or bugs you find with the website, particularly with the forums, please leave a detailed post explaining what doesn't seem to work and circumstances that lead to it.

I am pretty sure that the 'Search' functionality is at least partially broken at present. This is because of a (large) table in the database that hasn't been moved over (the web based interface to the database seems to crash if I send it too long of a command).

There seems to be an issue with logging in. When you log in, you get directed to an error message page instead of the forum index. You actually do get logged on, though, at least if you check the "always keep me logged in" button, so just type the url again to access the forums properly.

Well you can't get to webpage through here. If I click 'home', 'tour' or any other on the up, it just says it doesn't find the url.

Should be fixed now.

The links from the forums to the site have .shtml instead of .html. That is what is causing the problems going from the forums to the site.

Paha Poika Well you can't get to webpage through here. If I click 'home', 'tour' or any other on the up, it just says it doesn't find the url.

The skin you are using (AdInfinitum?) has some outdated links in it. Noted.

The problem seems to be just what Thrawn says. URL has shtml, not html.

I can't log in at all. I've tried like seven times and it just accepts the information but does'nt log me in. its like opening the page for the first time every time. I'm not recieveing any incorrect detail reports or anything.

I had to log in tons of times but I finally got in. I tell you I was somewhere in the double digits of log in attempts. Something must be up.

I took a quick tour of the site and came up with this conslusion.

The forums are not connected to the rest of the site.

I tried logging on to the forums from www.escapefromunderdark.com. Instead of sending me to the forums it sent me to the forums default page. I signed in again and I had logged into the forums this time.

When I tried to go back into the other parts of the site it came up with an error page. I went back to www.escapefromunderdark.com manually by typeing it and it worked for all the sections of the site except the forums.

I think that the forums are "disconnected" in a way from the rest of the site. I am guessing that when you try to log into the forums that it sends you to a different site, which would explain why I would have to sign in more than one time. One to send me to the actual forum site and a second in sign to actually sign in.

Hope that helps

No...not..no..err...maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you mean, but you can rest assured, the forums are connected to the main site -- they are on the same server.

There are two issues at play, one is easy to explain. From the forums, you can't access the rest of the content pages becuase their format has been changed since the move. Originally, all of them ended with .shtml, becuase they included code that fires due to the .shtml. There was a bit of a problem on the new host using the .shtml extention, so for a quick fix, the pages have been renamed to .html. The links on the forum simply have not been updated to reflect this.

As for the login problem, I can only offer speculation here, but it is based off of phpBB behaivor I've seen before. The problem lies in the method browsers use to handle cookies, and the way phpBB records your successful login. There are multiple ways to access the forums: escapefromunderdark.com/forums, https://efupw.com/efu1-forum, www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums, and https://efupw.com/efu1-forum. You will create different session cookies depending on which way you took to access the login. You can see this, for example, by viewing your cookies (Firefox lists them nicely given the url, you can try different methods and see the different cookies that are created). The problem arises when the forums check to see if you are logged in. It will only look for one location, and if it does not find it, assume you are not logged in. What many people do at this point is hit their back button to resubmit their info, but they are only going 'back' to the 'wrong' page, where the process will repeat itself. I have not tested this with every broswer, but https://efupw.com/efu1-forum gives me no trouble at all, using Internet Explorer. I would recommend making sure your bookmarks use this address, at this point.

Some of the issues should be fixed up now.

Anything left?
