Dear EFU Its me your old drunken ex DM bear. Anyways.
As many of you know i was trying to move to new jersey to be with a girl and so forth and i took the bar and passed yadda yadda
well that shits falling apart all around me. not the bar, but the relationship and so on.
Im trying to put that behind me. Out of sheer boredom i spent my lunch break today scanning the attorney ads on my alumni page. There it was: Assistant Attorney General for American Samoa. And then "nothing but flowers" by Talking heads came on XM Radio. A 2 year contract, with highly subsidized housing (which appeals to the broke lawyer in me but not the evil republican conservative), where they pay for relocation costs and i get to have my own caseload and such.
Now ive never been further west than say michigan, but theyre hyping this as being lots of fun etc. and i figure instead of paying 1000 a month in living costs i can pay 100 and be fine with only making say 45000 a year.
Now has anyone been there? What can someone tell me about the South Pacific? Does anyone live there? I know that playing EFU will be a bitch since its like GMT - 8 billion but hey who cares ill log in and rule without you.
I'm seriously considering this as a once in a lifetime chance to get the hell away from it all, literally, and get some cool experience to put on my resume. Anyone with any cultural knowledge of the area is welcome to give input.

I've been out near there, New Zealand and a few islands.
If its for a short stay i would go for it. Those places are remote and quiet but if you are into outdoors types of things (sports, walking, snorkling, fishing) you will be really happy, as thats the stuff they do).
And you aren't that far from Oz and NZ so you can always plan triups and breaks to them as well.
I think it would be an amazing experience! And something to tell your kids about!

it is random, and it is short term: 2 year contract. as long as im admitted in florida they say i can practice there, and if i get in on their criminal division i can solo cases like mad, get lots of experience and yes lose a butt ton of weight and get in crazy shape since its all outdoors, hot as fuck, and probably like no fast food honkeytonks.
i can jam that out, pay debt down with the savings having practically 0 rent grants you, and have a hell of a time.
sort of like working in the peace corps except i get to penalize people on behalf of the american government.

Do it then! Sounds like an amazing oppurtunity.
The only advice i would have is make sure your first 3-4 weeks are madly busy either work or social wise, or both...
I worked away from home for a year and depending how home-sick you get, those first few weeks can be tough, i got that advice and threw myself into local clubs, sports stuff, i met loads of people and barely felt home sick at all.
Oh and make sure you get an internet connection to keep up your EFU dose.

HEY! I'm in GMT -10 Dammit! Seriously in the late evening there is around 3-15 players online on a weekday. Lunchtime is primetime for online gaming though.
I live in Hawaii and I can say that I love it here. The landscape (of which American Samoa has similar) is phenominal. The people are great...I'll be honest I've heard some negative stuff about AS BUT..I heard the same things about Hawaii before I got here. I've never had an abnormal negative encounter here (most of crazy stuff is of the same variety as anywhere else, but less frequent).
If you like watersports, hiking or biking you'll have a good time. I've been living on tropical islands since '96..and I LOVE the atmosphere. The best part: No shirt, No shoes, No problem.
So I say DO it. You won't regret it.
BTW here in Hawaii people are REALLY attractive...the ratio of hotness to ugos is way higher than anywhere else in the USA!

Hey Bear!
Take it from me; tiny islands such as AS can change your life. Although AS is a bit of the poor side, it is a much more laid back then you will ever find in the "main land". I have lived in tiny islands of Okinawa and Oahu, and absolutely cherished it. I am eager to get back to the Islands.
So, I say get yourself a surfboard, some dive equipment, and a great camera, and GET OUT THERE! Just to give you a bit of encouragement, I threw in a link pertaining to AS.
Cheers,
Domare

Dude, that sounds like an awesome deal. Minus the subsidized housing. I feel for you, my fellow evil conservative.
I hope it works out.
