I am looking to start a group of privateers under the guise of a benign merchant company. The idea is that they'll be a bunch of men and women with strong camaraderie and a focus on disrupting some of the less savory sailors on the dark lake, all in the name of what's good and right.
Although the majority of the characters should probably be non-evil and non-lawful, nobody will be turned away due to metagamed alignment, unless there are IC reasons to realize that somebody might not be quite right for the crew.
Classes that seem especially well-suited for the crew are:
Fighters Rogues Bards Rangers
The only classes that don't fit outright are paladin and monk, but it's possible even these two could find a place amidst a rowdy bunch of seafarers.
As for what the faction will be doing, there are a multitude of roles to fill.
Plundering tends to be a pretty big role in a pirate's life, whether they call themselves privateers or not. As such, questing as a group will be encouraged.
Besides plundering and raiding, pirates are pretty well-known for drinking, so expect to find yourselves retiring for storytelling and the consumption of much alcohol when celebrating a successful raid.
Another aspect of the faction is that they will be trying to maintain a respectable trading company alongside their more daring business, which will include public selling of commandeered goods, potions, wands, etc.
The character with whom I am trying to start this faction is Gerrard Merrimar, a priest of Valkur, and while he is very devoted to his god, he accepts other faiths among his crew as long as their dogmas aren't opposed to Valkur's.
If you have an idea for a character you'd like to make that you think might join up on the crew, just send me a PM or post here that you're interested.
This doesn't need to be an official PC faction with a headquarters or anything, just a group of people who will get together and have fun when we're all online, and maybe have some pretty grand adventures on the high seas ... er, lake.
