On Recent Events

Citizens,

152 years ago, the founders stumbled upon the empty husk of Dunwarren with nothing but their freedom. It was their legacy of hard work, and willingness to endure trying and difficult times that allowed the city of Sanctuary to prosper and grow. We have inherited this city through the sacrifices of the dead before us. And now it is our turn to uphold the legacy. Whatever obstacle in our path, we will face it together. It is our fate to hold this place in time as free. It is our fate to hold this city for the generations behind us. In a world of chaos such as the underdark, we remain the only hope.

It is true that the Shadow Tribe has made demands upon us. It is true that, unless a deal can be arranged, we may lose their support. What is not true is that anything like this could defeat us. No matter the cost, we will stand by our principals, united and we shall overcome. We shall be victorious because defeat is not an option. It is easy to blame Matterhiem for these times, but we should not do so. The gnome fought for what he believed, and in the end that is all we can ask of any citizen. We must all be willing to fight for our belief in Sanctuary.

Anger, doubt and fear have no place among us today. Today we will not wait for others to be our solution, we will be our own solution. Today we look upon one another and know that -we- are all -we- have. However these events should end, they shall end with us united. They shall end with our victory. Courage, Sanctuary. Honor, tradition and excellence.

-Councilor Rook

Another weak crowd for Rook's speech, perhaps beginning to indicate a general malaise in terms of genera council support.

The smallness of the crowd turned out to be a boon for Rook, as most seemed more than doubtful about the prospects of moving on without a trade partner
