After the dragon took to the sky, I saw Prince Montezzi and his men leave the Upper Gate, and head west. A passing traveller recalled them going past the Low Way, and continuing on through the troll infested Low Road. I followed shortly afterwards, but was not able to locate them.

Do we know what it was that damaged the Shadow Dragon? I greatly suspect it was done by Montezzi's hand. Destroying the alliance with the Shadow Tribe, and possibly creating a war, could only work to his advantage.

Alternatively, and perhaps more likely, the gnome had some sort of explosives on him when he was swallowed.

The Seekers will be watching movements on the Dark Lake with extreme diligence

The explosion came from inside the beast itself. Presumably the Gnome, Butch Matterheim did something, likely hidden explosives on his person, yes. It is unlikely Montezzi harmed the Dragon personally, but he's certainly capitalizing.

Another informant of mine says he witnessed the Montezzi meet with the Great Shadow Death in an extensive cave network located near the entrance to the Windy Canyon immediately after its attack on the gates. The contact only heard a brief amount, before being told to leave. From what he has gathered, Montezzi was about to pay the Shadow Dragon a large sum of gold.

This was expected. Montezzi is making his move. He may very well be a greater threat than the dragon at this point in time. Keep eyes everywhere.
