Need your advice for my new character!!

Recently my good ole' evil character died, and I have decided that I, for once, will play a good guy. The reason why I don't do this is because I fall asleep playing good guys. Iv'e already got a pretty good idea of what I'll do, thanks to Kingcod, but I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have about a good guy that you think would be fun to roleplay. I'd really appreciate it!

Good guys are fantastic to roleplay!

The trick to making them "not boring" is basically the same as making an evil character "not boring." Just make sure he's not one-dimensional. Some of the best advice to give someone when creating an evil character is to ask why he's evil in the first place, and what, exactly, redeeming qualities he has.

A similar question works with good characters. Why is he good? What drives him to strive to further the works of "good", often at his own expense? What are his character flaws, and why does he have them?

There's a good guide to characterization out there somewhere that really helps you focus on your character as a whole person, rather than a representative of an alignment or class. Working from something like that- to breathe life into him other than the fact that he's good- is one of the best ways to make a character that you can stay interested in, I think.

cool thanks dude. Oftentimes when I make good characters they turn out to be the good guys on Sin City.... which isn't good at all. So that helps.

Honestly, Neutral can be fun too. Don't paint the world black and white! Lawful Neutral is probably my new favorite alignment. Evil is still fun, of course. And good can be.

Good luck!

Good is best when you've lots of evil guys to work against, which is certainly true of the server environment of the moment.

I think there are essentially two types of good. There is the, "lets all love each other" good guys, and then there is the, "I will squash you under my steel boot of justice" good guys. I'm guessing you'll like the second category better. Nothing wrong with a blend either!

quite the contrary. I don't really care much for the break-the-law-I-crush-you people.

I'm actually thinking about a rogue/cleric who hunts chosen. That'd be cool.

On different server I had alot of fun playing an ugly, mean good fighter. I was demanding, rude at times, agressive...but LG. I always did the right thing. It was funny because people kept thinking I was a paladin based on the demands I made (Open that chest and I will be forced to deliver you to the guard!) and my spouting of Tormite stuff...

The point is a good guy can be mean, Batman, Wolverine, Superman, and Professor X are all good...but they act very differently. Don't confuse good with pansy.

There's also the choice of a dogmatic or a pragmatic character to make. Your character can be good, but there are just as many ways to be good as there are ways to be evil. One of the things you have to decide is whether your character is going to be Lawful, Chaotic, or Neutral Good, and whether he will be a dogmatic or a pragmatic version of either.

Become a Marching Man. >_>

Anything you would like to play will work.

Just make sure you follow this formula.

Other PCs + Roleplaying = Success

Yourself + DMs = Failure

Humoresque speaks truth. The key to any pc is always interacting with other pcs, both new and vets. It can be very rewarding.

I have been intensely looking for a Chaotic Good Gargosian who gets really angry when he sees Evil stuff, that is something you can try!

Good is made not born, try making an evil or neutral character who is likely to in some point in their future become good. Give people a great chance to RP with you. Paladins might actually get a chance to "Redeem" some one instead of the black-and-white view of "Evil make me angry, PALADIN SMASH!"

Or instead of making a character you plan on becoming good, try making one of your all ready made characters into a good guy. And of corse the bad ass good guy is always one of my favourites.

If you play good, you definitely want to focus on antagonizing evil folks and setting up obstacles for other evil folks to overcome in the future, like laws and stuff.
