Every realm is forged by the sword in the days of its inception. Yet out of the flames of furious war and desperate struggle often a man arises triumphant, and recognizing the need to allay the damage wrought by his ascendancy once it is accomplished, he turns his attention to building, governance, growth, prosperity and peace for his new subjects. Such is the way of every great ruler, and such therefore is the way of Prince Rinaldo Montezzi.
House Montezzi takes the time in the light of recent victories, violent and diplomatic, against all its foes -who we now have all forgiven or reached accord with, as is customary of the merciful Prince- to speak of new times, and the opportunities they present. The era of battle, tragedy and destruction is over. Turning our backs on the woes of yore, we look to the future...
- A new Canal Ward image will be hewn from the unfulfilling mould of the old one. The vision is for a great Dark Lake trading hub bustling with goods, riches and ideas which shall touch everyone with wealth and a chance for greatness, be he lord or peasant or outcast.
- Law and order will be brought to the realm. A fair system of justice will be instituted and a dedicated policing force will be created. There will be an end to thuggery, disorder and brutality in the streets of Montezzi domain.
- The arts will find their niche in streets bereft of them for over a century. In the place of squalor and ignorance shall be fine statues, exquisite paintings, beautiful pageantry, poetry, histories and other great works of the mind and hand.
Honest employment and plentiful gains await for all who would recognize Prince Rinaldo as their ruler. We are in need of traders, guards, sailors, ship captains, economists, shipwrights, lawmen, scribes, scholars, artists and craftsmen of all kinds. Those who show competence and initiative in aiding the Prince forge a new era for Sanctuary and its people shall be raised up to lofty heights, and granted property, prestige and privileges hitherto not available to them under the old regime.

With his domain recently expanded, Prince Montezzi is now interested in seeing an effective and just code of law implemented in his realm. In the interest of hearing what his subjects consider a just law code to actually be, the Prince is now receiving submissions for laws from the public.
If you wish to see a certain law being included in the new law code for the realm, or have other pertinent suggestions, please send in a submission to the fortress within the week. You must give reasonable argument as to why your law or set of laws should be instituted.
Let it not be said that House Montezzi is uncaring of common sentiments of the citizenry. This is your chance to be involved with the House in shaping a fair new legal system.

House Montezzi wishes to advise you all that henceforth, many excellent properties in Port Montezzi and Lower are available for rent, purchase, investment and even perhaps as gifts if applicants can demonstrate that their proposed business or activity will bring economic benefits or attract people to the districts.
This should be of interest to anybody who is:
- A merchant requiring a warehouse or stall location - A mercenary captain needing a barracks and storage for his company - A businessman desiring a place to start his enterprise, which could be anything from an Inn to a Specialty Store - An artist wishing a property to showcase his works - A priest desiring property for a new shrine or temple to his Lord or Lady

House Montezzi is in need of the following:
A Court Jester to amuse the court with pleasing displays of wit and comical antics.
A Steward to assist in the daily running of the realm. This position will involve clerical duties such as updating the House roster, scribing notes and proper filing of correspondence as well as wider administrative duties including the creation of legal codes, economic management and the implementation of an improved ranking system for the House.A Marine Captain who will be the supreme advisor to the Prince in all matters naval. The position will include command of vessels, recruitment of crews, construction of naval defenses in Port Montezzi, procuring ships and various other related tasks.
In addition to these specific roles, House Montezzi desires men of fiber and courage to sign on with the Guard. Soldiering men and women, spies, divine servants and arcanists all have a place in the Guard. For those who serve with distinction and dedication, the Prince offers advancement in the House which comes with grants of titles, privileges and land.

House Montezzi hereby announces an alliance with the illustrious deity Etorix and his faithful Shadow Tribe. For many days did the Prince Rinaldo Montezzi converse at length with the Great Shadow Death in his lair as a guest. The result is a pact which shall ensure that the prosperity House Montezzi is beginning to bring to the region is protected by the dauntless peace that the patronage of the magnificent Etorix must surely render.
The specifics of this treaty are as follows:
- House Montezzi and the Shadow Tribe will begin a prosperous trading partnership which will bring great wealth to both powers - House Montezzi shall render its full military assistance to the Shadow Tribe and in times of war - Etorix and the Shadow Tribe shall in turn render military assistance in times of war to House Montezzi
Seeing free people such as we ex-slaves trying feebly to carve out a safe existence in the face of the terrors which lurk in the Caves Below, in his benevolence did Etorix decide to offer his protection and guidance to the city. Yet the foolhardy government above, led by the Spellguard and their three lackeys on the Council, attempted to murder the dragon when he sought fitting recompense for damages wrought to his faithful followers. Of course, slaying a deity is an impossible task for even the maliscious cunning of the Spellguard, and they managed only to cause great distress in the Great Shadow Death as the grave betrayal of his children in the city above was made clear.
In stark contrast, House Montezzi appreciates the benevolent, parental patronage that the Illustrious Shadow Death has bestowed on us mortals, and fittingly do we look forward to renovating the old disused temple of Hoar to become a temple to the Father Etorix where we all might give thanks and honor his hallowed name. Despite the severe injustices suffered by the Great Shadow Death at the hands of the crude, thankless children who rule the Upper City, he has decided not to turn his back on the rest of us. Assured that House Montezzi and its subjects still desire the protection and guidance of the God of the Deep Caves, Etorix once again offers us his divine tutelage to us and together shall we learn to grow strong and prosper in his shadowy domain. We need not fear the drow, the duergar, the illithids, the eye tyrants or any other dark power who would seek our destruction.
Together shall House Montezzi and the Father Etorix bring a new age of growth and enlightenment to the region.
