letter to MOntezzi fortress : Testimony

To whom it concerns,

This is the occurence as witnessed by I, Amris Vaen, disciple of the path of Abjury. The dwarf Bolgar had gathered some of us to fight against Chosen in the sewers. Bolgar came into Lower wearing a helm, and bearing a weapon, against the decree of the Prince. He was then attacked by a half orc with a greatsword, who said nothing to anyone, but rushed forward full of potion enchantments and cut Bolgar down. A watchman attempted to talk through this situation, but the half orc insisted that the dwarf was going to bow to him, personally - not the Montezzi lord - and that should he tresspass again in Lower, he would die. When the dwarf refused his beard was cut off. At some point during the fracas a woman was struck down by the half orc, and when her admirer, an Associate of Spellguard, saw what had occured he stunned the half orc with a spell and attacked him, he was subdued near the stairs by a guard named Bert. After the beard was cut off, some semblance of order was restored, with the watchman urging everyone back to Upper. However, Bert would not yield up the subdued Associate, and held a flame device near his face, threatening to burn him if any approached. The honorable watchman refused to leave the Associate, and his many attempts at patient persuasion failed. When I saw battle was inevitable, I warded the fallen Associate from fire as is my calling. Bert then attempted to burn him ; when this failed due to my ward, he killed the helpless fallen man with his axe. Bert then fled. The half orc had attempted to aid Bert, but had been subdued meanwhile by Bolgar and some others. The watchman forbade any to harm or kill the half orc further than knocking him down, and all returned to Upper with the Associates body and possessions.

I deem the half orc to be an unlawful, powermongering thug, and I deem your man Bert to be a cold blooded, cowardly murdurer. None of them show the least respect for other living beings or even the semblance of manners or restraint. Should my words displease your court, I have no fear, for though my body may be slain, I know that the Leaflord will claim me into a better existance.

-Amris Vaen, Abjurer.

Thank you for your letter, citizen.

I might sugest though, that you re-read the first bits of your letter, and note where the party heavily violated the laws of this realm.

While our half-orc guard may have acted a bit wantonly, that by no means gives leave to attack a guard of this realm, and their action were quite justified.

The law states that attacking a watchman is a crime serious enough to warrant being held for trail by a member of the Court, and Bert was simply doing his duty by not handing over the Associate.

Those men had no right to demand him back, and as he was pressed with hostile action, he had ever right to slay the man.

We will not tolerate blatant lawlessness in this land. Follow the law, or face the consequences, which are clearly stated.

Cour Magician Lemalian

Thank you for the notice, Goodman.

I find this to be most disheartening.

Bolgar surely knew the rules of the realm, but it is known he cares little for them. In this he made a mistake.

However, our Guardian has acted recklessly in attacking a Dwarf he could not of known with any certainty was aware of the rules or not, as he was helmed.

I do not agree with the Half-Orc or Bert's actions and felt they were grossly negligent of their duties as well as over-bearing and assumptous.

I will bring this issue before our Prince for his judgement, though if you could find out who exactly this half-orcs name is it would be appreciated as I am not aware of any Guards of that lineage.

Be judged fairly,

Guardian Arnen
