Bolgar Bruteaxe Candidacy

Citizens of Sanctuary! Freed slaves and citizens, born citizens, brave men and women of many races; I wish to announce to you hereby that I, Bolgar Bruteaxe of Clan Mithrilsoul, am candidating for Council.

I will not lull your ears with speak of eternal peace and beauty. We are in harsh times, which require men of strength and virtue. The other candidates may offer you peace - I can offer you strife, and a hope for peace. But be sure that the strife I offer, is far better than any peace brokered by the likes of our Chairman Dentra or his ilk.

As many of you know, I am a steadfast and loyal warrior, who have aided the City as best as I have been able to - despite not always recieving the same good treatment back from it's rulers, I have not turned my back on you, nor will I. I view it as my duty, and the duty of all other good men and women, to safeguard and watch over the democracy, freedom, rule of law, and well-being of this city. It is my duty, I believe, to guard the greater Hold which is Sanctuary, and of which I regard myself and even our Clan as a part.

Therefore, good citizens, I announce my candidacy to your - our - Council; a good and true and loyal warrior, who will fight to the death if I need to in order to preserve the good and honest values that this city stands for.

On the council, I intend to stand for strength, backbone, moral integrity, and practical realism. I intend to be as the rock from which our kin is born - hard as the rock, and hard-hitting as an avalanche.

But I will not do only this. I will do much more. My ultimate aim is to make the city prosper. This, above all, is my most important promise. We shall seek alliances with Khuzlun Holdfast, and we shall seek other aid. We shall be adamant to those who threaten us, be they Montezzi or Duergar or Abberation alike. We shall depend less on those we do not trust, be they Kobold or other. We shall depend more on those who risk their lives of us - be they Watch, Spellguard, or Seeker. We shall remain independant, and free.

- Bolgar Bruteaxe It appears someone has made an addendum to the poster in a skillfull way.

So what do I practically promise, then?

- On the Montezzi, I promise the citizens of Sanctuary no more compromises will be made, and no more deals brokered. Unless the Montezzi show true wish to make something good out of their heinous acts, they must do so quick. The city of Sanctuary is not a city to be threatened and beaten by a band of thugs. If the Montezzi continue on their chosen path of dealing with Duergar and infernal powers, our city will be forced to act.

- On the Seekers: The Seekers are a useful agency for gathering information and intelligence, and their integration into the city's defence is integral to our future. They must cooperate with the other organizations of the city - and the other organizations with them.

- On military matters: I am a warrior, and it is in the defence of this city and the lives of it's people that I will be of most use to the folk of Sanctuary. I wish the city Watch to have it's funds raised, and it's numbers strengthened. I also wish to give support to a new School of War which will act more actively in Sanctuary's support, and which will train and lead a general staff in charge of purely military operations - it's purpose to coordinate and plan military actions of the defence organizations of Sanctuary. I also wish to endorse all private enterprises to strengthen the defences of Sanctuary without engaging in enforcement of Laws - which is the duty of the Spellguard and Watch. Such individuals who aid the greater hold of Sanctuary are favored by Gorm Gulthyim, and by me.

- On trade and economics: I am no merchant, but I believe at this time it is too expensive and hard for new merchants to break through in the Upper market, and wish to make this easier by less beaurocracy and more economic support.

- On foreign allies: The Shadow Tribe has been an ally of Sanctuary for a long time. Although my honor and the history of my kin forbids me to like these creatures, for all that they are, they have aided us in the past. We shall perhaps look for sources of ore elsewhere, but I do not wish a total and complete break with these lizards. They are a necessary evil, perhaps. However, I advice us to look for major allies and trading partners elsewhere. There are some which come to mind - there are others of my kin, for example, or even Deep Gnomes who travel the lakes. I will definately push for as much cooperation as we possibly can with Khuzlun Holdfast, my kin, who may provide us ore and metal. Sanctuary shall not, however, ever engage in trade with Drow or give in to demands of the Duergar; and if It is up to me, our contact with even those who wish nothing but trade shall be minimal and all of these vile races expelled from our city.

A small, additional notice tacked up:

The dirt-slinging begins.

Vote Bolgar for Council!

Foul odour, alcoholism, cowardice!

Only a few of the better traits of the furball!

An axe that misses most of the time, due to reasons mentioned above.

Interesting to note that the only criticism against me, aside such which I cannot objectively answer, is that of cowardice, when I am the only one speaking for a tougher attitude towards external threats and potential foes - not to mention the Montezzi.

I shall let this well-spoken argument against my person sit next to my own for me, so that all may see the difference and judge for themselves.

- Bolgar

p.s. Yes, I like my ale. So do all dwarves. Those who wish can join me for a drink at any time.

Bolgar Bruteaxe

A stone giant's next meal.

Thanks to the bravery of the Associates, Seekers, and others, this is a blatant lie. I fell to a giant axe fighting in the front as did another man of my kin, but we live again.

Citizens,

suddenly, many voices are vying for your votes. Many names I am sure most of you have never heard of before, or names of those who never before have acted in the interest of the city. Some, perhaps, are not even of the city, but would seek power for their own ends. Others have had power, but have abused and misused it horribly, and now wish your votes to do so again. Others have grand visions, but few of them live in the here and now.

Sanctuary does not yet have any grand military, or grand industry, in which to put our men and women to work. I wish to change this, through contact with the dwarves of Khuzlun Holdfast and the Shadow Tribe and others, and by promoting our own trade.

Sanctuary does not have any chieftains, nor is our city in turmoil, nor do we need to scrap or destroy the animatrons as some would have us do. Such superstitions are not needed by the city, and I will strive to keep it at bay.

Sanctuary did not need to hand over the Canal Ward, nor was the organization and the coordination of our defenders at all "exemplary". I wish to change this, too.

I am a dwarf of the people, not of the ruling classes. Me and my clan have felt harder than most the times of chaos and strife that have been upon us ever since the last election. And by Gorm Gulthyim and my honor as a Mithrilsoul, I shall, if you allow me, strive to bring back order and strength to this city, and to mend the errors of past councillors and flawed decisions.

Vote for me, and vote for strength, honor, and realism.

More of these are put up.

More of these are put up.

Bolgar Bruteaxe, constantly drinking a seemingly endless supply of alcohol, Is that what we want on the Council? A drunken dwarf with impaired judgment? I would hope not! His wanton actions have brought danger and threats to the town. Is he what we want representing our town, is he?

We all know whose words these are.

I won't listen. Will you?
