I'm wondering how the death system works on this server, as there's northing on the website - is it open to suggestions or already set in stone?
Death and Ressurrection
It's in the "heavy debugging" phase.
(Meaning: "Erh.. what?")
They know what they want to do but it doesn't work.
I've died on EFU already and it looked like it worked to me!
Apart from my disappearing pack, it seems cool.

Which is to say, we've got it all designed, there are just a few minor glitches that RealityDevoid is busy fixing. Once everything is finished, we'll have a more thorough description of how death/resurrection works.
Things to expect: no mangled corpses.

Thus the "Heavy debugging" :)
It would be nice if it could be scripted so a copy of the body lied on the ground, with a "corpse" placeable was used, pretty much like the NPC corpse system on coa, was used for PC as well.
Once I played a CoA version with that, but bugged, since it didn't destroy the copy after you were ressed, so you had multiply corpse appearances on the ground when you respawned
This is what we have so far. I -think- we've ironed out all the bugs by this point, although the real test will be when we go live.
(1) When you die, an exact duplicate (your body) drops to the ground (not just a corpse placeable). The body that falls to the ground keeps all equipped items equipped, which can be removed or left on the corpse. You can move the corpse around without taking off the items if you want. When you're resurrected, you pop back up with all your equipped items still equipped.
(2) Raise dead makes you lose a level, but the max loss 1000*character-level (so dying 5 XP points away from your next level is not unduly harsh). Resurrection reduces that XP loss by 1/3.
(3) There is a respawning option, which is something like 2/3 of total XP. The way it's handled is actually pretty cool, but I won't spoil the surprise.
(4) There is no scripted TR (reserved for DMs only), no mangled corpses
(5) No quests in the fugue, but I think players will find it an immersive and captivating experience.
Mmmm. I like it. :)
Glad you do!

Actually, I'm pretty excited, but I didn't want you to know. ;)
Thanks for the quick replies!
That all sounds pretty damn cool ...
Looking forward to trying it out. And knowing my character builds, it'll probably be sooner rather than later :)
I like the really stiff 2/3 xp for respawn, and think it will make characters a bit more warry of charging without plans, tactics, etc...or atleast without a good friend that is either a priest or just plain well connected. As a whole it sounds great.
He forgot to mention - Ressurection as opposed to Raise Dead causes you to lose less experience.
-Cross (It is possible, with Ressurection, to die and not lose a level.)

We're working on Crosswind's reading comprehension.
Definitely, particularly on account of ressurection only REDUCING BY 1/4!
Beeeee-yatch!
-Cross

Too bad the engine doesn't implement the spell Reincarnation.
And then to the topic at hand. After dying twice last night in EfU (with two different characters), some literally divine RP by Cheezy (thanks once more) and finally being respawned (probably because the servant of Kelemvor grew tired of Silia's whining), I can only say WOW!
I think my elderly dwarf will stay back there and run for mayor. *grin*
i love the corpse system, a lot, but i would like to know how I tell the difference between a corpse and someone at -6 (when they aren't in my party). also, when someone is on the floor at -6, they are awake and bleeding to death correct? meaning they can still speak and see somewhat of what is going on. some people seem to think at this point they are already dead and can't takein their surrondings, so I'm just trying to double check my understanding.
Player's Handbook Dying (-1 to -9 Hit Points)When your character's current hit points drop between -1 and -9 inclusive, he's dying.
He immediately falls unconscious and can take no actions.
If the character's hit points drop to -10 (or lower), he's dead.
Healing that raises the dying character's hit points to 0 make him conscious and disabled. Healing that raises his hit points to 1 or more makes him fully functional again, just as if he'd never been reduced to 0 or less.
much thanks for the info
