Letter for Prince Monezzi

[Delivered by a beggar to the Fortress.]

To: Rinaldo Montezzi Date: Alturiak 13th, Year 153

I have already spoken with your diplomat and have asked him to pass on the message. As I am unsure if he has done such, I am writing you this letter to request formally.

My men, associates and I require the ability to pass through your domain. We seek to do battle with the Rats who call themselves "Chosen". Your diplomat told me that he did not think this would be an issue.

It is out of respect for your property, and a wish to uphold the peace treaty signed by yourself and the Council, that I write you this letter. I am sure you can you can see the direct benefit of allowing us to deal with this threat, rather than to allow it to fester until it overflows into your domain.

With that said, all I am requesting is the ability to move my men in and out of Lower Sanctuary without harassment. They will obey the law while in your domain. We will be doing nothing else aside from walking from the stairs to the sewers.

Signed, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshall of the Marching Men

Kedrick Reynolds,

Please forward me a list of your men, and I shall ensure there are no problems as you pass through my domain to do battle with the Chosen below.

Prince Rinaldo Montezzi

To: Rinaldo Montezzi Date: Alturiak 14th, Year 153

You would find such information completely useless to you. As I said in my original letter my men and I shall not be the only ones venturing into your domain, but also associates and those who I deem capable or reliable enough to bring with me. My men themselves are directly prohibited from entering your domain for any purpose unless they have my direct permission or ordered to do so by a member of the Council.

Were I to follow your request the information that would be provided would prove completely unreliable, and I shall not be accused of lying to you or your men. In fact these correspondences between us are being delivered to the defense organizations of Sanctuary as well as the Council so that they may be notified of my request.

I am unsure if those with me will make multiple trips or if we shall only be making one. I am unsure of what we shall find. All that I am aware of is that the Rats are amassing in large numbers below your domain with unknown intentions.

None of your laws shall be broken, and any trip made will only be done so in passing. In fact any stay within your domain will be so brief you will likely not even become aware of it until I notify you it has occurred.

It would obviously be counter productive to deny my request. The purpose of our correspondence is not to waste time, but to inform you that I will be passing through your domain, that our stay will be extremely brief, our full intentions, the benefits provided to you in allowing us to proceed, and to receive your formal assurances that my men, those who travel with me, or myself shall not be assaulted or harassed as we pass through.

However, by the power invested upon you by the Council of Sanctuary you have been given full authority to deny us access. Should you do so, however, we will simply find an alternative route that does not involve entering into your domain as I know of multiple routes to exist. Additionally, any security information we obtain on our excursions into the territory of the Rats shall be denied to you and your men by myself unless otherwise authorized to hand over such information by majority Council vote.

I believe such would be counterproductive as you turn your attentions elsewhere at the moment. Should you grant my request I will ensure that you are kept informed of what we find so that your domain may be better protected against the machinations of the Rats.

Signed, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshall of the Marching Men

Kedrick Reynolds,

You have my permission to peacefully and lawfully pass through my land, as all men do. It is unfortunate that you refuse to tell me the names of your Men, however. I hope you will reconsider.

Additionally, I'd like to speak with you in person some time.

Prince Rinaldo Montezzi

To: Rinaldo Montezzi Date: Alturiak 17th, Year 153

I am glad you have given my men, my associates and myself permission to pass unmolested.

That being said I have no intentions of meeting with you. Should you have need of my men or myself you may petition the Council. I am not an elected official nor a politician. I am a warrior. Anything you need of me may be obtained through a majority vote by the Council.

My men and I shall do our duty and then peacefully leave your territory. Your people shall remain safe from the Rats if we can prevent it. I am sure you've heard their rumblings recently, their calls to feed the Appetite. I shall inform you of what we uncover as agreed.

Signed, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshall of the Marching Men
