I thought about posting this in DM Q&A, but it occurred to me that many players may know the answer as well.
A lot of the big divine rivalries (Bane v. Torm, Shar v. Selune) are fairly fleshed out and make a certain amount of sense. You can get a general idea how followers of one side view the others, and it's easier to write up propaganda and convince people that the other god is pretty unpleasant.
I haven't found any good information about the Beshaba v. Tymora struggle, however. Is there any reason that they're fighting beyond that they both want control over luck? Does anyone have any good information on this?

Ah, having played a Tymoran for about three months on Arabel I know some of this. Beshaba and Tymora are both beautiful ladies who used to be the same person. It was... Tyche. She was a fickle goddess who loved many and was faithful to none. She governed both misfortune and luck, but was, after a series of events found here http://lwnsql.lfchosting.com/MDTymora.html
Split into Tymora and Beshaba, who now hate and revile each other, both wanting what the other possesses. The page I sent you has more on it.

Thanks for the information. I knew about the backstories, but I wasn't sure about why they hated each other so much. I guess 'they both want to take control of the luck portfolio' is a good enough reason.

Well, they -are- sisters. Sibling rivalry is always a good source of tension.

Think of yourself being split into two people: One exemplifying your nice traits, and one representing your dickhead side.
I know I would hate myself. Even more than I already do! 8)

What's Beshaba's selling point? Generally if you worship her, you'll suffer a little bit and your life won't improve, whereas if you worship Tymora you're life might improve.

I think Besheba's 'selling point' lays in the fact that you will be spared misfortune and bad luck by venerating her.

If you worship one, you will have good luck, if you worship the other one, you won't have bad luck. That's what he meant I think.

Stop this, please.
Yeah, really. If Dr D had his way, everyone would have to live out their entire backstory on top of learning hundreds of years of history in game. Hell you probably wouldn't even know what color hair your mother had if you didn't see her in game.
This FOIG crap is not helpful to anyone. You aren't funny, clever, or cute.
Some things -must- be known before a character can be succesfully roleplayed. How does a Priest of Tymora know anything about her goddess if she didn't learn it in game? The Engine starts you at level 1 for a reason. Your character went through a great deal of learning to obtain that first level. And yes, there is a level 0 for people who do not have skills.
Plutocrat: My best advise is to read, thoroughly, the information people have linked to you. Think about it, try approaching it from various angles, and then approach the DM team to see if your viewpoint on the matter is accurate or fits within their vision of the server. Remember the DMs are here to help you. They are always glad to help you develop a concept further.
