To the Council; cc to Jacob Greigne, Sanctuary Times

Council, as a citizen of Sanctuary and as a representative of the Spellguard I ask that you consider a new measure before the next elections that will protect our city. The Council may be open, it may certainly seek to represent everyone of its citizens. However, there are some citizens that do not deserve to be represented upon the Council itself.

I am speaking of convicted criminals. Here I do not refer merely to drunks arrested by the Watch, or even repeat offenders of our laws against magical displays. I refer to blatant criminals who have been tried by the Council itself and found to be criminal, reprehensibly so, elements in the city.

The proposed law is simple. If a criminal has been tried by the Council for any capital crime and found guilty of endangering Sanctuary, murder, seditious behavior, or any other capital crime that results in fines over 1000 coins, exile, or stoning then that citizen is barred from every holding a position upon the city Council. This is necessary as a number of criminals continually flaunt the laws of this city, and then demonstrate the audacity to run for the very body of law that judged them and found them wanting.

Sanctuary stands for more than that to me.

Agent Hectra,

The Council has been considering such a law for some time now. While personally I believe that the people's interest would be better served by making public the criminal records of all candidates, and letting the voters decide for themselves, others on the Council are quite convinced of the merit of such proposals. We appreciate your involvement in the political process, and will thoroughly consider your suggestion.

- Councilor Adelia Tyrell

I agree with your sentiment as well Councilor, criminal records should be published on individuals running for Council. The barring of a candidate would only be reserved for the most serious of cases, perhaps even being pardoned by a vote of three Councilors. I certainly understand your qualms, and would look to work with you to make a compromise that protects our city and your concerns.
