The Mithrilsouls, a clan like most Dwarf-folk. There are some differences however. Most Dwarves are not faced with the threat of the Underdark at all times, few folk are. Most Dwarves must not deal with the melting-pot of cultures that is Sanctuary, the constant tolerence of acts and crimes that would never be committed in their own hold and law.
Yet these Dwarves adapted to their environment for the good of all folk and their kin. They volunteered their services to Upper Sanctuary for defense and partook in many efforts and noble deeds for the betterment of their neighbors.
When Prince Rinaldo Montezzi and his court took Lower and began their reign over it, the Mithrilsouls remained out of it's affairs, on both sides.
They stood idle as the Seekers and the Ascensionists were slain, as the Hoarans were butchered and executed for sedition, as Lower was ruled. But such actions ate at their very being, their sense of what is right and just in the world. They were forced into action eventually.
A Goblin named Ghyrrt, slave to the Montezzi court, had hired a brigand to locate and procure a "Dwarves Beard". A task that may sound innocent in of itself, but to take a Dwarf Beard is an act of great insult and shame to the victim. Few dwarves would allow themselves to survive such an encounter if they couldn't kill the thief, and would sooner die before live in such shame.
The Prince Montezzi refutes responsibility of this, the Goblin is slave to his brother, the Count and a member of his court. Thus the Prince claims to not be responsible.
This infuriated the Dwarves. One of their ilk slain and his beard taken, their killers hired by a direct servant of the Count Montezzi. Still, the Dwarves held themselves in restraint, refusing to act until their Elder had deemed it so.
Faenor Breena Watchever was this Elder. A noble woman of selflessness who sough to establish an Aid Station of sorts for those wounded or harmed while in the defense of the city, as well as the general populace. Faenor Watchever founded the Mithrilsouls and took in Dwarves who were seperated from their clans and families, and thus gave them a new purpose.
Eventually an attack was made against the Montezzi court and Faenor Watchever was reported to of been seen to be involved by men of the Court who were fighting for their lives. All others who bore witness deny seeing her lift her arms, however. Regardless, the Mithrilsouls owed an apology to the Montezzi Court by Prince Rinaldo's word. They were to apologise and acknowledge his sovereignty as all men do who are so accused to of wronged the House. The Dwarves denied wrong doing and in fact felt the Court owed them an apology for the murder of their kin, Krovus.
The Faenor was slain shortly after, along with the previous Caretaker of the Mausoleum, Dornal Avhost. Thier killer a member of the Montezzi court, servant to the Count, the Goblin Ghyrrt. Their bodies reportedly turned into stew by the Goblin-folk of the alley ways and sewers.
The Mithrilsouls were enraged and while the Court denied this murder the Dwarves still led a brave attack against the Montezzi Court with some other folk who tired of sitting idle while so many were slain, seemingly without cause to them.
Forced into the defensive, the Montezzi House fought and defeated their besiegers. All prisoners being taken into his dungeons and offered once more to seek mercy and bend their knee to their new ruler. All but one Mithrilsoul refused, and seven Mithrilsouls were executed.
This is the Legacy the Mithrilsouls leave for us to learn from. All folk take from it what they will.
May the dead be judged most fairly under Our Lord, Kelemvor
