Letter to the Spellguard and Watch [DM & PC]

Loyal Defenders,

It is impractical to meet with each individual member of your organization. I also realize that each of you are busy, so I shall keep this missive brief.

My name is Kedrick Reynolds. I am a former slave, soldier, engineer and most importantly: I am a Sanctuarian.

I am hereby writing this missive to inform you of the founding of the Sanctuary Legion. We are an organization dedicated to the prosperity and defense of Sanctuary. We are loyal to the vision of Charles Bresely, the democracy he established, to the Council who carries on his legacy and to you the defense organizations of our city.

We are a group of patriots, individuals who believe in the greatness of our city, and seek to show it through our service. It is not our goal to replace either defense organization of this city, but it is our hope to grant to your organization assistance in times of need.

The Legion is a private organization that does not receive funding from the city. It is one of our primary goals to be self-sustaining. We have also not formally announced the creation of our order, and that is why you are receiving this missive. It is not our desire for you to learn of the formation of the Legion through a third party, and it is out of respect for your leadership and your service to our city that we seek to inform you before publicly announcing.

If you desire to meet with me then I will make myself available to you. You will recognize me in town wearing a set of grey and blue plate armor, with a black beard and shaven head. I hope that together we can forge a better city for all.

With honor and respect, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshal of the Sanctuary Legion

I may have just the thing for you, Master Reynolds. Find me. Soon.

- Lt. Reynolds

Any relation to LT Reynolds by chance? We'd like you to join, and if you have any more holy folks, clerics, paladins and the like, I'd like to consider them for the Greycloaks. I doubt their duties will interfere with you're groups, but they won't hinder Watch duties.

- Private Luke Danger, Paladin of Tyr, Warden of the Greycloaks

[Lieutenant Reynolds letter is received, and Kedrick writes a letter to Private Luke Danger.]

Watch Private Danger,

I thank you for your offer; once our organization has formally established itself we will open ourselves up to internal review by the Watch. You and other members of the Watch are free to call upon us when needed. Additionally, should you find fault in any of my men I urge you to contact me immediately. It is my intention to ensure that each member of the Legion is a law abiding and upstanding citizen. Should they fall short their time with us will be terminated.

As to your question, there is no relation to my knowledge. My surname originally first appeared in family records over 375 years ago. We were originally known as the people of Reynolds Hill, which was a small farming community located in the Dalelands. Reynolds according to my family history was a famous warrior that died defending the area which came under siege by goblins. The Hill is said to be where he made his last stand, and thus the community that established itself in the nearby area took on the name. My great, great grandfather left the Dales and traveled south to the Reach where he established the Reynolds Trading Company.

My father, who is my personal hero and a man I have respect for with every fiber of my being, was an Adventurer of some renown. He eventually settled in Baldur's Gate where he met my mother, and they had me and my two brothers. I am the middle child.

As I came of age I embraced my father's legacy and took up tutelage at the Citadel of Strategic Militancy, and under their guidance I fought in several minor skirmishes with beasts in the North.

I eventually found myself within Lantan (though I must admit this was mostly as a result of family connections) which allowed me to study the practical applications of technology to the art of war.

Later, I was called back to the frontlines of battle where I was unfortunately captured and sold to the Drow. I spent three months as a slave in the nearby Drow city of Traensyr. My freedom came when I along with six others were armed and placed under the direction of a Drow Male. We were to assault a caravan for some unknown purpose, but as we traveled the Underdark I seized upon an opportunity that presented itself. There was a bend in the road that overlooked a steep incline. As we traveled that I leapt forward and shoved the Drow Male off the incline and he fell to his death. I then slew the three goblin slaves that were in the patrol, took their weapons, and led the remainder of the patrol into the Underdark. We eventually found Sanctuary which was less than fifteen miles away after two days travel, most of which was our groups getting lost in the twisted tunnels and caverns.

That was six years ago. Since that time I have dedicated myself to Helm the Vigilant Guardian, though I also pay near equal homage to the Red Knight and Gond the Wonderbringer.

I hope this answers any questions you may have about me and gives you greater insight into the type of man I am. If you have further questions I will make myself freely available.

With honor and respect, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshal of the Sanctuary Legion
