Letter to the Former Knights Confederacy

[Several of these letters are left at the Grotto and the Last Stand.]

Honorable Knights,

I cannot say in truthfulness that it was not pleasing for me to learn that the Confederacy had been dissolved by Alexander Archibald. There have always been a handful of families in this city who have thought of themselves somehow greater than other citizens, and who have not-so-secretly harbored wishes to see a monarchy installed in place of the Council.

With the Confederacy dissolved it prevents them from achieving their goals, and thus it is a victory for Charles Bresely's vision for a free democratic society.

I do not know your personal motives for joining the Knights, but know that I harbor no animosity toward you for your decision. It is the right of all free men and women to make their choices.

I write to you now to offer you a new choice: Join with me. Turn your back on monarchy and nobility and embrace the ideals and vision of Charles Bresely and the democracy he has established.

My name is Kedrick Reynolds, the Grand Marshal of the soon-to-be established Sanctuary Legion. We are a group dedicated to the ideals of Charles Bresely and seek to serve the interests of the Council. Our methods were much the same, our organizations much the same, all that differed were our goals.

I offer you a chance to join with me before I formally announce the creation of the Legion. I am willing to consider giving each of you an equal or near equal rank within the Legion that you held in the Confederacy.

Let the ending of the old order mark the beginning of a new. Join with me, and together united as one people, we shall overcome all odds and help Sanctuary achieve the greatness that each of us see in her.

If you wish to set up a meeting with me then I will make myself available to you. You will recognize me in town wearing a set of grey and blue plate armor, with a black beard and shaven head. Alternatively, you may leave a letter for me at the Last Stand. I look forward to hearing from you.

With honor and respect, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshal of the Sanctuary Legion

Mr. Reynolds,

With all due respect, your assesment of the situation is severly flawed. The Lord Archibald and his retainers have been running the show since the begining and the other houses benefited from his strength, prestige and leadership while offering little. With the current state of the city as it is, Lord Alexander could no longer afford to carry these houses on his back. Already a vast majority of the Confederate retainers, including those formerly pledged to the other houses have solidified their alliegences to Archibald. In many ways the "confederacy" is stronger then ever, because it now has the single leadership of an undoubtably great man.

Charles Bresley and the dream that is Sanctuary may never had been had it not been for the Archibald name. While I wish your Legion the best, in its new formation, my loyalties and the loyalties of all our men remain with the house that has been the backbone of the city for over 150 years. To show, however, that there is no animosity towards your offer, I would like to meet with you in the near future and discuss uses Lord Alexander might have for your men which would benefit both our parties.

-Ambassador Rook

Ambassador Rook,

This is unfortunate news. I am well aware of the role Alexander's family played in helping establish this city, and his family should be well commended for it. However, I do point out that we are not and will never be a monarchy of any sort.

While I have respect for the Archibald family and their presence at the Founding, I do not overlook their current objectives. Like so many other self-styled "nobility" they seek to undermine the democratic way of life of Sanctuary. That is something that I cannot and will not condone.

Additionally, I have nothing but respect for any who serve to defend Sanctuary. Alexander's men have in the past proven that they are willing to do just that, and I am willing to collaborate with the Archibald Knight's in that regard. However, I am dubious to any insinuation that my men or I may be "used" by Alexander. If we are to be of use to anyone it will be the Council.

I will meet with you as soon as I am able. While we may find ourselves separated by politics, I hope that we can find ourselves in agreement when it comes to principles.

With honor and respect, Kedrick Reynolds Grand Marshal of the Sanctuary Legion
