I'd like to see a way to create banners for use in-game. They would ideally be persistant, but definately removable or breakable (like plants/shrooms are now). They would be an inventory item until used on a spot. Different factions would have their own flags/banners to use as they wished. I think it would be best to have it prenamed, as opposed to typing in the name after placing it down, but really, whatever works best.
This would make taking over that random cave or abandoned building a lot cooler, since even if you're gone, your banner is there. If it's in pieces (aka gone) when you get back on the next day, you'll know that you're not the only one looking to snag the sweet local.
Having a "defacement" option might be cool too. Tear a banner to shreds without destroying it or goblins urinating/wiping feces on it just to piss someone off. >.>

Definitely an awesome idea.

I like it, but I can also see how it could potentially clutter the server (If it actually would). If it would, I'd suggest making it so it's only available to those of some rank whom the DMs would trust to use responsisbly and not on every random corpse or cave.

I like this idea also. Give this ability to factions, PC and DM. Let them set up their banner or sign, and let it work by "talking to" them through a dialog option. So you can interact with it and so the faction can write things on them.
For example: The Montezzi's can keep their sign at the lower staircase updated themselves without having to rely on DM's.

Any DMs have a say, or want to take a crack at adding this in? You could probably just make it part of the growing system, without having to add a new script... of course, it would be strange having to wait for your banner to "grow". >.> Whatever.

Why not have it be "assembled" then :D

This is a good idea, as long as it doesn't cause lag. No one wants the lagbeast growing any larger.

What if they were restricted to a few select areas and/or made really expensive? (1000 gold a pop should be discouraging enough)

Signs, signs everywhere there's signs,
Blocking up the scenery,
Cluttering my mind
Do not feed the lag beast.
(A really cool idea though, perhaps made as an app thing, or DM requested thing, so they do not become like the infamous mushroom incident.)

We have almost 500 areas.

Why This Is Not Good:
- If this was available to everybody, what Inquisitor pointed out will happen.
- If this is only available to some people, it would be the people that already have support to the point where it isn't necessary (when the Watch took over the Canal, NPCs were placed in the area from the next reset).
- Unless their numbers were closely regulated, they could be planted anywhere and everywhere, and the only way to effectively remove them is in game.
- Refer to the Plant Placeable Syndrome.
Make them available to everyone but somewhat pricey (can I get a woot for economics, supply/demand?). 250 to 500 a sign. I don't see why point three is an issue. As to the fourth, plants are free. Plus, when you plant a shroom, you can plant five more within 6 or 12 hours, whatever it is. Signs don't reproduce. That's an enormous difference.
Back to the second point, this idea isn't to help groups (or individuals with some pocket change to spare) like the Watch, SG, or even Montezzi's Court, but those that are small but want to make an impactful difference on the world that will remain in their absence. It could all be undone with a few punches, sure, but at least when the sign is gone you'll know that someone is messing around on YOUR turf. Additionally, DM placable signs take more DM work to put in, and to remove when they get destroyed.

1hp, 5 Hardness. Possibly a persistent, cleanable debris pile if/when they're destroyed? There are people out there who love to gather/remove random pamphlets, and you don't think this clutter problem might solve itself? Worst case scenario, we'll have to limit it to 'X number of clickable spaces' along certain walls, if things didn't already sort themselves out like that. 8)

If this was added, I'd rather see them cheap than expensive. Otherwise a player could destroy a 1000GP banner in less than five seconds, which may be unwanted for many players.
I'm not sure how we feel on this, but I think it's an idea worth considering!

Also, we could just try it out. If something doesn't work out perfectly, too many get put up, they are somehow exploited, whatever, they shouldn't be that hard to remove permenantly.

I'm thinking:
1/use a day plot item obtained at log-in/character start available to all. The sign will disappear on logout with the default level, 25g-100g for a regular destructible sign that doesn't go away when logged but will be gone on reset. Resting, and then using the tool again will destroy the last sign made. Seem good?
