Letter to the Watch & Council & Mithrilsoul [DM and

To whomever it concerns; this day, I have been deeply offended by the Watch. Two thugs accused me of vile crimes in the Canal Ward, and dragged a fight into the streets of Lower where I was best by the Montezzi. I managed to crawl into the In-Between and inside the borders of Upper, where the Montezzis demanded I be left to their justice so they could kill me.

I, an Upper citizen, who had violated no Montezzi laws or laws of Sanctuary, was given up without question by your sergeants. I had committed no crime and there was no trial.

The Montezzi beat me up and stole all my belongings, and wished to kill me for being an Upper citizen and member of Clan Mithrilsoul. My quarrel, however, is not this time with the Montezzi, but with the city of Sanctuary who so willingly surrenders it's own citizens, on Sanctuary soil, to the justice of those who wish them dead - on false accusations, and without trial, at that!

My honor has been slighted, councillors and watchmen - as has that of the entire Mithrilsoul Clan, and I demand a compensation or rectification. Otherwise I shall gladly challenge either of your number to a duel of honor, so Gorm and the Morndinsamman are my witnesses.

- Bolgar Bruteaxe

[a letter is penned in reply with the Watch seal on it]

Dear sir,

Your grievance will be taken seriously. I urge you to come to the Watch fortress and speak with a watchman about this, or if this is difficult send us a full accounting of what happened, descriptions of those involved and of any witnesses to these crimes.

We will investigate this matter, you have my word.

-Private Gil Smith, Sentinel of Helm

Private, since the Montezzi lands lie between us, and no dwarf is any longer permitted to use the New Dunwarren lift, travel to Upper is always unsafe for any dwarfkin - thus, you will just have to bear with us for not comming to Upper.

Here is my account of the events:

I, Bolgar Bruteaxe, went on an adventure with two followers of the spirit-gods of nature. On this adventure we came into disagreement, and they departed at one time, and I later.

Upon my return to town, I discover one of them dead from a pack of spiders, which I dispatch, and then retrieve his body and gear to town where he quickly begins to accuse me of stealing his things after I have healed him.

All his things (he were allowed to name things from my pack and collect them all) were returned under his constant accusations of theft, after which he did not cease. Here I challenged them to a fight, and they demanded it be done in the streets and assaulted me before I had chance to object. The fight was by the border between the Montezzi and Canal Ward.

The Montezzi intervened by assaulting me - merely stunning the orc - and demanded I pay a "fine" and wanted to beat me up, while releasing the Orc. I managed to flee to the "In-Between", where I was subsequently beaten down right in front of the Watchmen of Sanctuary - all of them can be called as witnesses.

The Montezzi accused me of many things, and the Watchman without any trial sentenced me to the stocks and to be tossed fruit at - without any trial and just the words of the Montezzi, and the beligerent spirit-friends to go for it. The Montezzi were not satisfied, so the Watch Sergeant in charge satisfied himself with breaking my teeth with his weapon, and allowing the Montezzi to carry me off.

In Lower, they beat me to within an inch of my life, stole all my potions and gold to a value of 1000 gold pieces - claiming it was a "fine" for "breaking their laws and disrespecting their house". While it is true I may have broken their laws and disrespected their house, this was done while we were in a state of war; and none of these "crimes" took place on Upper soil.

Yet I was still beaten by both Montezzi and a Watch sergeant, for no crimes against Upper and only imagined ones against Montezzi, after saving the life of one of my accusers, and for trusting the honor of the City of Sanctuary.

I hope this comes to something tangible, private. My honor has been deeply offended.

- Bolgar

Bolgar Bruteaxe,

I can't do much, but if you were accused in the Canal, Montezzi is at fault. Who is the sergeant who let the Montezzis drag you away?

I know of Montezzi brutality, and this is on a whole new level. Their sphere of influence is growing I'm afraid, so be careful. My advice is to keep Protection from Evil and Invisibility, tactical retreat, and possibly blur, potions handy if this happens again.

I understand your honor has been slighted, I'll see to it that the attacker is charged adequetly.

Just need names and discriptions of your attackers, then I'll see what I can do.

The Sergeant's attitude was injust, and I'll speak to what ever sergeant gave you up.

Also, if your clan is in need of refuge and the Canal is becoming far to dangerous, you are free to take up lodgings in New Dunwarren. If the wards around the Temple affect you, I'll make sure you get a good resting place.

It's close to war, and we all need to work together before Sanctuary is plunged into darkness.

- Private Luke Danger, Paladin of Tyr, Greycloak

Private, I do not know. Sergeant Krown gave me up, and Sergeant Lauren watched, along with all the other Watchmen there.

I was accused in the Canal Ward of theft, which later became accusations of public nuisance et cetera after the tuzzle in the Montezzi lands. They wanted to "charge" me for all the accusations, made in both Canal and Lower - and extracted a "fine" for all of it.

Several members of their Guard wanted to execute me for "badmouthing" them in the past, though others vouched against, and so, at least, they spared me my life - which is more than the Watch sergeant would do, for he seemed very keen on letting them kill me for all he cared.

The Montezzis, I recall, threatened the Sergeant with charges of treason if he did not give me up to them - saying the Council would charge him for this over poisoning relations between Montezzi and Sanctuary.

As for war Private, the only risks for War that I see, are between those who hold by that the Spellguard, Watch and Montezzi are all nice people - seeing as all of you appear to be cooperating now, and that one appears to do the dirty work of the other - and between those who think the three of you make up an unholy alliance. Clan Mithrilsoul will, unless our Faenor decides to move us, remain in our clanhome where we will defend ourselves as we have done to this point unassisted by your Watch or anyone else. - Bolgar

Bolgar,

I don't know anything about an alliance of Watch and Montezzi, didn't find anything offical on it, so it's a lie. I'll speak with Krown and Lauren if I get a good chance to. And if they still think there is, I'll check with the council.

But as far as I know, there is no treason involed with them not forking over an innocent to Montezzi.

- Private Luke Danger, Paladin of Tyr, Greycloak

Ill look into it

Merle Barer

Mithrilsoul,

Firstly, you are able to use the lift within New Dunwarren. If you think you are not, then you are entirely mistaken. The issue was with a group of thugs at the other end who were denying your entrance, but they have since been sorted out.

Secondly, Sergeant Krown will be reprimanded for his actions this dark. However, your offers to duels fall upon uninterested ears and I suggest you learn to make proper complaints without tossing about duels, and gods. The matter of extradition is a touchy one, and in order to avoid direct War some concessions must be made. I suggest staying out of their land entirely as, as you incorrectly noted, the Lift is not unavailable to you.

As a side note, no trial is necessary for minor or serious crimes, but only for Capital Cases.

I hope this fixes your concerns.
