Canal Ward Gardening

Clan Mithrilsoul, up until now, had a rather beautiful garden some of us dwarves - and probably other people - had given a lot of time to cultivate, for IC reasons as much as easthetic reasons. It made the Clan territory feel more alive and less static than some of the other areas out there, and were just a plain nice touch.

Now, however, the plants are disappearing and we can't plant any more - seemingly because someone's set a maximum number of herbs there or disallowed it entirely.

Seeing as we've spent some time on this, it just doesn't ring fair to my ears.

Aside the easthetic aspects, there were a number of IC uses for the gardens - a strathegic supply of food, aid to certain allies, et cetera for which we were using the gardens, and suddenly removing them without any IC notice whatsoever feels very iffy, especially as some things IC depend slightly on them.

Please reset it so we can keep doing gardening in the Canal Ward. If it's an issue of IC regulations, then please come and talk to the Clan IC instead of using mechanical regulation.

You sure its not people walking in and harvesting the plants?

You are not meant to be able to plant in that area. It was probably just a bugfix long overdue.

Then I suggest you undo the bugfix so we can!

Really, it's not a big change, and I don't quite understand the logic behind disallowing gardening here when a major/minor player faction has been doing it undisturbed IC for some time.

It was a bug people were reporting for weeks now actually.

The mere fact that you were planting crops on city streets should have come to an indication that something 'odd' was happening probably.

Which is why some of the Mithrilsouls were originally talking to some local druids to find a more suitable place for their gardens. This just opens up new avenues for you to interact with more players.

We've been gardening long before the bug reports started dropping in. And not on the streets, much, either - pretty much mostly on our Clan territory.

The reason we're not doing this with the Druids is, pretty much, that the Druids just don't seem interested in interacting with us, or are going about it in a way which just isn't practical either IC or OOC - or place them in places which we pretty much have very restricted access to, or for any number of other reasons.

In fact, this just limits our options of interacting with other players directly. We already had some player factions ready to open trade on gardening material/foodstuffs with us, and some ideas for many new projects we were going to undertake with these things.

For any number of IC and OOC reasons, that's just not possible if we don't have our own gardens - or we have them removed for OOC reasons.

Regarding the issue, it's largely an IC one - the Canal Ward used to be a "wild" area tended by druids, but in the past few months with the Watch takeover it's become increasingly urban and the plants just aren't flourishing.

There are steps you could try to make to change that, or (as has been suggested) find other places.

I've heard at some point that the recent boom in plants is part of what's causing recent lag issues. Even though IC I'd keep some of the plants around ... I'd be much much happier for OOC reasons if they disappeared. The lag monster is getting hungrier these days and as I've said before few things irritate me worse than dyin to lag.

Bero: I can't speak for everyone, but if you -ever- want to speak about plants, gardening, farming, whatever. Just send me a whisper in game when you see me. I'll be around increasingly over the next few weeks, so this shouldn't be too hard.

We druids are trying very hard to come up with ways to interact with people, and we are right next door to you, really, since we've set up in the Shifting Cavern. Seek us out, we are willing to chat!
