Okay, the server is restarting, so I thought I could make a thread about something I have been wondering about: why does it look like 80% of the characters are evil? The paladins detect so many evil auras that I once thought it could be bugged. So why does such a vast majority of people choose to play evil characters?
Why such evilness?
I'd put it down to being a phase the server sometimes goes through. Other times you'll have a week were every man and his dog is a Paladin and the week after that is the Goblin Horde.
This may be, although I must add I wasn't even talking of all the characters including monsters, only the "normal" ones.
People can play whatever they want.
He's not saying they can't, Relinquish.
It is as Dilandau Kale says, though. These thing are cyclical. Also, it even depends greatly at what time of day you're logging in and even also who you pass IG.
Other man's hero is other's enemy. Good people do horrible things in name good and bad people are not always so rotten. It depends on the eye of the beholder.
Evil PCs do not represent a majority. Neutral does. There are probably slightly more evil PCs than good PCs, but not by a ton, and that cycles too.
Involvement and player times are also a large factor.
There were some times, maybe 4-5 weeks ago, that Lower was a freakin' -dead zone- of activity. You could wander for hours and see one or two people fedexing or questing, but no existing "Lower Pcs". Now, clearly, that's changed.
But its all cyclical.
Next thing you know, Montezi -may- fall, New Duwnarren conquer Lower, and then people will start making threads about "WHERE'S THE EVIL!?".
Like has been mentioned, it's a cyclical thing. There are plenty of good characters around as well. Don't get too hung up on it; make a good character if you want to balance it out!
Howland Evil PCs do not represent a majority. Neutral does. There are probably slightly more evil PCs than good PCs, but not by a ton, and that cycles too.Heh, House Montezzi sure is tipping the scales.... but it's a cycle, but seriously, Team Good is actually falling behind from what I can see.
I'm really loving the struggle for Good at the moment, it really does feel like power is slipping more and more to 'evil', and those of us who might be more inclined to be working for good, are really finding it a challenge to counter at the moment. Good stuff, is nice to see Evil having the upper hand for once

Yeah, the challange is good. But I think the real reason is Team Good didn't mobalize in time, we just lack effective communication and team work to nip evil at the bud... something I realized, as does my character.
But if Montezzi goes out, well, then the Lower would be in an intresting place.
But heres where things could get intresting, House Montezzi CONQOURS the entire Upper! THAT would throw a REAL skiffer into the game.
Of course, there'd be a lot of lag and OOC havoc like off-line players, so there'd have to be some warning, like
"Many see in the Lower that the horns of war sound, and the sound of smiths forging new weapons and armor for House Montezzi are working over time, seige equipment and spells prepared, and even the Prince Himself seems to be preparing his evil magics for one disivive battle.
For all who see this, it means war is coming. A civil war that could very well swallow up all of Sanctuary, bringing it under the iron rule of House Montezzi.
But the major question on everyone's lip is, "Will we hold out?"
Whatever the answer, it will only be a matter of time, some even think of leaving for Mur or Sewer Town, but even they know it is only a matter of time untill those places too fall, should House Montezzi succed."
Then of course the OOC time to give people enough time to prepare or come up with a good IC excuse for if they are off line.
Sorry to elaborate there, but I really think House Montezzi was a good thing OOC, we need the challange.
Three or four months ago there was a massive PC bias in favour of good. Things have a way of balancing themselves out.
As others have said the only constant of underdark is that nothing is constant. I remeber when playing a evil guy I thought I could never escape the endless hordes of paladins.
I'm sure it will shift again it always does.
I remember when there was a druid hoard once- good times.
I agree with Kale above. The server goes through phases and trends. Without any real reason, groups of a particular type will spring up outta nowhere. Sometimes it's kobolds, sometimes it's mages, sometimes its paladins, sometimes it's whatever.
Eventually everyone dies off or people get bored and switch characters.
A balance at any point in time is hard to achieve.
And not all evil people have the same agenda.
Nor do all good people (except for right now >_>).
I agree often evil people fight evil people loads of times!
I noticed this when I played my Paladin also, the first few weeks I rarely ever detected evil PC's when making sendings for quests etc., but closer to the end I couldn't even walk from the upper gate to the town hall without detecting atleast one evil aura.
Likewise, recently we've been seeing HORDES of paladins logged in, only to slowly die or retire when they realize just how dull it is to play a paladin...
It's all depending on what the major events are...At the start of the conflict people were swarming to both sides of it, but now that the Montezzi are leading, evil is overwhelming in numbers.
Team Good has been taking a bashing lately alot of FDs their forces have thinned out, that is all it is about really.
I believe there is a subtly here that is being overlooked. In my opinion the average number of evil players is probably about the same. However, for the moment they are mostly organized into a group. As a result those players are playing more and playing together giving the view of evil multiplication.

Up untill they upset my pure rogue. Oh yes. Level 9 rogue with a hold person wand and a score to settle. =O
...Or, she -will- be... ...Soon... ...Heh...
Yeah just for the sake of being repetitious, it does balance out, there was a point in time when there was a really big ole' team good, led by Drin the Paladin Hin and what not. It was very frustrating for us evil fellas, and evil people do go against evil you know, I have a few evil chars who want their playground back and truly hate the good prince montezzi.
