I'm not exactly sure if this has been suggested before, but I didn't find any posts about it before when I searched for it. I've recently been playing a druid and have noticed something quite annoying. When using animal empathy, some animals when released from domination immediately start to attack opon its release. I know that it lasts for 1 RL min / level, but sometimes you lose track of time.
Two events have lead me to think about this. One was the unfortunate death of a party member who crashed and relogged, then suddenly my dominated animal was released and killed the player. The second was when I was wandering the underdark with a deep lizard, it following close. I lost track of the time and as it followed me, it was released. and immediately started to attack my character, nearly killing me.
To get to the point, is there any chance of adding a timer of how long animal empathy with last, perhaps similar to the underwater breathing? Or atleast a warning when its about to release the animal.

Use an egg timer. >_>
The dreaded kitchen timers of doom. (Yes, it was made by a gnome.) Apparently they tend not to work for very long if you keep dropping them on the bathroom floor.

You can always AE them again while they're still being friendly.

Yes, but the complications are such that your animal companion (if not set on hold position) will attack the past AE'd little beastie...Also, your own character will retaliate!
It -would- be nice if there was a timer, though I can see why it would be an extremely low priority to implement such a system.

After a quick scan of Animal Empathy, it appears to be hardcoded like Knockdown or Pick Pocket. There is no impact script, so we can't learn when a creature has been empathized. There's no way to differentiate an empathized animal from any other dominated NPC.
This suggestion seems to be impossible, unless I've overlooked something.

A shame. An implementation of a timer like the breath holding script
(You can dominate this creature for X round, X seconds)
then notices every thirty seconds of how much time you have left.
Would be extremely helpful

The timer isn't the problem; there's no way for NWScript to know when the timer should start, or if a creature has even been affected by Animal Empathy.
