Shovels to bury corpses

Let's have another go at it.

A shovel item that allows you to dig a hole that is a container. The hole can be spotted with a search check. The DC of the search is either a base value (modified by circumstances eg. lighting) or maybe there is a dig a hole related skill like, say Craft Trap that sets the DC.

Maybe you could use an axe or similar item as a makeshift shovel, but with a penalty to the DC. Also maybe not all areas are dig-able which could reduce the overhead.

It won't add much more lag and clutter than the corpses in the first place.

I am wary on the idea of being able to create storage anywhere with an item. I love the thought, but wont put much faith behind it until a Dm chimes in.

an alternative would be to make a shovel, that when used on a corpse opens a dialogue

this dialogue would then give you the option to bury the body where it is. kinda like how you can do a Healing check on certain bodies in the game to determine what killed it.

Then, you can decide if you want the area to be buriable. If not, you get a message that the body cannot be buried there. you pickup the body and try another zone.

If the body can be buried, a clickable grave placeable will be created on that spot persistantly whenever the character is online instead of spawning their body. Anyone can click and digup the grave to recover the body. or maybe anyone with a shovel

This would circumvent having to create a storage area, while still allowing bodies to be buried.

Also, while this idea would be neat, I wouldn't expect it to happen soon. This would involve a bit of scripting to complete.

In the meantime, since bodies are persistent now, you can quite nicely just take the body out and hide it somewhere remote. Any time that person logs back in, their body will respawn way out wherever you hid it. Quite nice, really.

Otherwise, I love the idea of burying the body. It even creates a nice way to hold a funeral for a fallen comrade. Bury them someplace nice and plant a tree by them or something.

Like the idea, if the scripting can be done.

I think I speak for the DM team when I say we'd like to be able to supervise the disposal of corpses

The problem with that Johannes is, for some players it is impossible to get a DM until the Weekend, ever. There needs to be an alternative :O

Its easily possible to script the container to spit out the item if it doesnt have a specific tag. (afaik)

its also not that hard to make a widget which lists the locations of these holes. Itsj ust tedious and probably more of a matter of a DM willing to script/implement it

Reflections upon recent events have revealed that, despite what you may think, there is no problem here. For what it's worth, this suggestion should be entirely possible to implement, but I, personally, prefer to know what's going on.

well whats going on erglion ?

this would be awesome

and snoteye is right, I HAVE SEEN DMS in the AUSTRALIAN TIMEZONE which is GREAT TO SEE :)

Things are going alright, thanks for asking.

With regard to the topic, though, my understanding of the DM position is that:

this should be possible to script BUT

the DMs would like to supervise corpse disposal.

Which sounds fair enough to me provided that the DMs will make an effort to be available for such, even if they just hop IG for a minute from IRC. :D Works for me.

My position is that generally "destroying a corpse" isn't something I'm enthusiastic about seeing unless the situation calls for it in an appropriate way according to a Dm's subjective standards of taste and style.

We've scripted it so PvP-killed PC corpses are persistently located, however, so you can hide corpses as much as you like; and of course Pcs can't respawn from PvP.
