Ithiel Maelrivin

[This large, bulky, leather-bound journal appears to be very old, it's cover is covered with an intricate series of dull green vine-like carvings and etchings, it's dog-eared pages are slowly yellowing with age and appear to have sustained a small amount of damage from moisture over the years. Etched into the front cover of the tome rather recently are the words; "Loss, love and life; A soujourner's journey." All of the entries appear to have been scribed in the graceful Espruaran script of the Elves and have been written with firm, meticulous hand...]

Entry one:

(Kythorn 11th, 1203 DR)

Caelwen has been writing in a journal of her own for some time now. I always never truly understood why people choose to do this, why would anyone want to record their thoughts on a medium which can be so easily accessed by others, it just seemed so very... Open and insecure to me.

When I voiced my thoughts on the matter to Caelwen, she merely laughed and smiled her enigmatic smile before saying that we all must leave behind a legacy of our own, something which will remind others of just who we were, of the things we loved and the things we hated, of our greatest achievements and our shattering failures. It would, she said, grant us true immortality and we would be remembered forevermore not only as simple names etched into stone but as people.

And so, driven by these words of my beloved, soft spoken sister, I decided--With no small amount of trepidation!--to keep a journal of my own within which I may record my own thoughts and feelings, my loves and my hates in hopes of attaining what Caelwen said was "True immortality."

[The remainder of this entry and many of the following entries go on to detail the various sundry events which took place during Ithiel's life, and nothing of great importance is mentioned.]
