Roleplaying Recognition

CoA had a section of their forum solely for this, and I always thought it was a good idea. This would be a place for people to say "Kudos!" to all those wonderful veterans and bright-eyed newbies that are doing a great job with their characters.

What say you!?

I'm against these for numerous reasons. The disgusting sides of favoritism and popularity keen among them. If you want to thank someone, do it through a tell to them. They'll appreciate it, and it doesn't have to be on showcase for everyone else to compare other people to. Or give them Kudos in their screen-shot posts.

I'd say just throw Forum, IRC PMs, or IG Tells about situations like this to the person in question.

The previous attempt you mentioned turned into a popularity contest in some circles.

The CoA DMs despise that area and frequently talk about how much they want to shut it down.

If someone does great, just tell them. Most the time, the forum for "recognition" looks like a circle-jerk of people who like to quest together.

I want to nominate Sherry for Dumar Forge.

This is the worst.

Please no! Polite tell, forum PM, honourable mention at your dead character's screenshot thread are all much more fulfilling and satisfying.

What Jasede said.

A nice Kudos or well done on a screen shot thread is best imo.

All this would accomplish is You have a kewl PC "XXXXXX" +1 post count.

Yeah, for reasons stated above we're not gonna do this. Feel free to send tells to player saying "That was awesome" or something to that effect, and that's good roleplayer recognition there! If you deem someone especially noteworthy, we don't mind players sending a DM message saying "Hey guys, this character's rockin'. You should check it out and maybe drop him something nice." It's hard for us to keep track of all the cool stuff happening on the server, so it's nice to get a sense of direction now and again.

Anyway, I think we've covered all the bases. I'm locking this one up.

OMG he recognized my PC!

It must be good.

Don't be shy about telling someone you like his or her PC in private or on IRC, just, we won't be having a forum devoted to it on the boards.
