ANALYSIS OF PRELIMINARY AND SECONDARY SEWER TOWN DEFENCES

ANALYSIS OF PRELIMINARY AND PRIMARY SEWER TOWN DEFENSES: WITH RELATION GIVEN TO THE THREAT OF MONTEZZI TYRANT SPELLGUARD ASSISTED INVASION WITH INTENT TO LIQUIDATE AND ENSLAVE THE LAST REMNANTS OF FREEDOM DEPENDING ON A MONTEZZI PERCEIVED LINEAR SCALE OF REBELLIOUS TENDENCIES [DRAFT]

INTRODUCTION: The Montezzi are a tyrannical group of infernal worshipers, assisted by the Spellguard, who wish nothing more than to conquer all of Dunwarren, and rule unopposed, enslaving all beneath them in a reign the dread human god Bane would admire. Their sights have set upon Sewer Town, whose people live in freedom, which by itself is an insult to the so called “Prince”. They have trodden and spat upon the ideals left by Ubel and Ivlysar and are slowly gaining more power as they enslave more and more people. What follows is survey of Sewer Town’s defences, and recommendations on how Sewer Town is to win a direct assault by the Montezzi.

PRELIMINARY DEFENCES: The sewer network is vast and complex, with secret entrances located all throughout Dunwarren. It is predicted the foe will not attempt to reach Sewer Town through a hazardous, long route, as it is unnecessary when a close entrance is present in their own territory. If the foe has a different starting route, they will still need to make their approach through the same tunnels as if they entered through the Pump House, only with the added disadvantage of having to face the natural defences of the Sewers for longer.

Rats: The rats of the sewers are sturdy and far more vicious than the surface variety; each rat takes roughly twelve seconds for a well-armoured human to kill and may spread disease to the Montezzi forces as they progress in the Sewers. The rats will be a mere nuisance to the Montezzi.

Once the Montezzi have entered the Sewers, there will be two possible paths for them to take to reach Sewer Town as outlined in Figure 1 and 2 F1 F2

Path One: Path One is through the tunnels and the remainder of Goblin Town. The route is the more difficult and complex of the two available. Should the foe decide to take this route, they may encounter harsh resistance from the ravaged goblin tribe, if they are under the impression that the Montezzi have come to enslave them or claim their ‘territory’. If the Montezzi engage the goblins, it is estimated the tribe will not last long if they face the full force of the tyrants. The tribe’s greatest weapons are the vests strapped to their bodies filled with explosive chemicals designed to kill both the victims and the attacker with deadly fiery impact. This will not slow the foe’s advance long however, due in part to their determination and magical pre-warding against elemental death.

Once the goblins have been subdued or eliminated, The Montezzi face the difficult task of traversing the inhospitable acidic water of the sewer lake to reach Sewer Town proper. It is conceivable that the foe could swim through the sewerage, placing themselves at great risk from archers, leaving them incapable of defending themselves, and requiring at best, clothing as light as rothe hide armour. Their second option would be to carry small watercraft through the sewers to cross the lake. This still leaves them open to fire, with the danger of capsizing. Overall it is unlikely the Montezzi will take this route to attack, due to the difficulties that come with the approach. However they may consider placing one to six ranged support combatants by the lake’s beginnings as shown in TWO, where arrows and ranged offensive magic can still reach residents.

Path Two: Path two uses the direct route to enter Sewer Town. The Montezzi have keys in their possession, and locks picks in their ranks, and should currently have no difficulty in gaining entrance where traditionally locked portals are concerned. The passage way is long and narrow, with only one path for the Montezzi to retreat through, should the battle not go in their favour.

PRIMARY DEFENCES: When last surveyed Sewer Town had one catapult, and two ballistae in operation, focused upon the bridge’s crossing. When the Montezzi enter they will encounter heavily armed resistance at POINT 1, but should be able to overwhelm the five men stationed there. Once they move past POINT 1, they will proceed to try to cross the bridge at POINT 2 where they will suffer under archer and siege weapon fire.

RECOMMENDATIONS: The Montezzi will in all likelihood take Path Two for their main offensive. Sewer Town must set up sentries along this path to quickly relay word of their approach so its armed forces can prepare for the assault, and assume battle stations. Explosives should be set and concealed to collapse the passageways in the key areas marked in FIGURE 1.

Under the weight of fallen rock, they will hopefully starve or die immediately, which will end the scenario. If they do manage to break free, they are presented with several options. They can break free through the southern side and their only option will be to push forward into Sewer Town. They can break free through the Northern Side, and retreat to replan their assault. They can break free through the Northern Side, and take Path 1, where they will die in the approach across the lake. Should they decide to push on, or if the explosives fail to go off, a vanguard will be in place at POINT 1.

The moment the battle begins to sour, the Vanguard should be prepared to retreat to POINT 2, where the gate will be quickly sealed and reinforced. Sewer Town’s main stand should be made here, do not engage the enemy in melee until they have broken through the gate. Two more explosive charges should be placed at the entrance here, and a fire arrow launched to set it off when the bulk of the Montezzi force is near it. If defenders at the gate ever break, Sewer Town should be considered lost, and a strategic retreat made.

The ballistae should be launched upon enemies attempting to cross the bridge, with the intent to knock the well armoured into the sewer lake to drown. Should the Montezzi flee, give chase to POINT 1, if it is still accessible. If the brothers themselves enter the fray, focus all assaults upon them with intent to kill. Once the leaders are dead, and their bodies in our possession, the others should break.

Since Sewer Town will have lost its main entrance to the sewers, it will rely upon small makeshift rafts and boats to travel across the sewer lake and access them via goblin town’s tunnel.

Send an envoy to goblin town warning them that the Montezzi intend to capture and enslave them all. This may or may not work, should the Montezzi be seen armoured and warded in Goblin Town, the goblins may attack, or they may cower.

The Montezzi may take a different approach, and enter Sewer Town by sneaking in armed men and women one at a time, slowly amassing an invasion force behind the gate. Sewer Town needs to have no helmeted strangers in its sights, with a clear description of the higher ranking members put on display at POINT 1. Any Montezzi identified should be captured.
