PC's just standing

I'm curious if this happens to anyone else ...

Your PC is in the middle of a battle and for some unknown reason just simply stops action and stands there. Won't attack, hot keys won't immediately work, won't parry, etc. Anything you want to do you have to click at least twice. It's not a lag issue ... that's an entirely different ball of wax. This is just ... the PC stops action.

I've just been fugued for the second time in the kobold camp because of it. Went from well into 5th to well into 3rd. Talk about a piss-me-off. (yeah ... this was a quest we did cuz of Rip's post).

Does this crap happen to anyone else ... or do I need to threaten my 'puter with a sledge hammer?

I see that happen usually when you've been rooted in place but can still take actions. Like when you're immobilized in a web with someone in melee range, you keep having to hit attack over and over each round to keep attacking.

Oftentimes my character is in the midst of battle, enemies all about, his opponent falls, and there he stands staring at all of the others getting beat up - doing absolutely nothing.

I must therefore click on new opponents which often allow for them to hit me with Attacks of Opportunity. Also causes delays in trying to heal myself too.

I assume there is nothing that can be done about it as I am a pessimist and relish in fugue-ing.

crap happens

it's not a spell. I've had it happen in plain ol' NwN too. I'll be cheerfully fighting along, something as silly as a dire boar and *boom* I'll just stop and stand there.

Happens when you're up against large groups of monsters. It's a huge pain in the ass, because it happens at the worst possible times. It'll knock you out of expertise, too, meaning deep shit if you're not paying attention to every single thing that's going on.

Best thing to do is just pay attention and check, check, recheck, your combat status, (HP, combat modes, whether or not in attack mode, etc). Either that, or stop playing a tank. Any other role can cut and run, but you'll need to learn to deal with it properly. For what it's worth, tanks who can manage big time crowd control get huge respect.

This happens to everyone i think. Sometimes a character will just simply stop, which allows enemies to get flanking attack bonus and whatnot.

The two clicks shouldn't be nessecary, the delay is there because the enemy gets to finish its turn before you can start yours.

Add this to the list of annoyances that include characters accruing attacks of opportunity from an entire mob after having clicked attack on one that decides to shuffle around, your PC being shoved into traps because another PC, or monster, moved near them, and a host of other NWN nuisances.

*nods* as long as I'm not losing what's left of my mind or have to toss my puter over a cliff. Usually I just deal, tonight it just pissed me off after standing in Fugue for the second time in less than 10 min. >.< I shall learn to embrace the Fugue ^-^ that and heal before I think I need to.

What I do in combat with larger parties is that I click, click and click some more on the target I'm currently facing.

You also 'action-cancel' when a party member leaves the party/disconnects.

I second Kotenku's suggestion. The more I play, the more I realize the importance of keeping up either my stats sheet or my inventory (where most alterations to your stats sheet can be seen, either by increased carrying capacity=strenght, AC=lots of stuff, examining weapons and items=Keen/MagWep buffs). It's harder to see what's going on though, so it comes at a cost.

HELL YEA!

My Talossian won't even wear armor, though I expect him to die a lot.

So Snyder is a real man? Awsome.

This rarely happens to me, of corse I hardly get into combat with overwhelming numbers against me unless I have the great cleave feat availible. But when it does usualy it is because "Enemy is not in range" so my guy stops and gets his butt kicked.

This very thing just happened to me for the first time EVER last night. I have been many times affected by lag spikes or dropped connections that just sort of froze everything, but alst night was WAYYY different. In the Urdlenites, my character ran up the slope after charging and defeating the leader and from my camera viewpoint, the rest of the party was offscreen. I froze in place and thought it was a typical spike until I saw the server message screen still recording the additional battle occuring below me. After about 45 seconds, I was able to move again. Weirdest thing ever. Never seen it in 3 years of playing.

Had this happen many times. just grin and bear it, I guess.

Sometimes, this is because a member leaves/joins the party. It forces everyone in the party to suddenly stop whatever they're doing.
