What are the rules on attacking at transitions?

Can you attack as soon as the player loads and you see them (before they may even know they are there or can see you)?

Can you attack them if you give them one round to respond (e.g one potion), and you are fully buffed standing over them?

If a DM is present and they attack at transition is that OK?

Reason i ask is that i have been discussing this with other players and differences seemed to exist in our understanding and experiences.

It has never happened to me nor have I ever done this.

But should it happen I would think it should be entirely against the mores of the server and would be something the DM's would take strong action against (depending on the circumstances a bannable level offense).

However, other players said they had experienced this first hand and were kind of relaxed that they had been attacked before they even loaded and had gone straight to the fugue before seeing their attacker :shock: (I am still in awe of how completely calm these guys were!).

Anyway, some clarity would be great, as i don't want to whinge to you guys about it if this happens to me. 8)

Attacking people right on a transition is not good. If that happens, the offended party should contact the DM team through e-mail or IRC.

I'd also caution you about listening to too much rumors, however. It has been my experience with three years of DM'ing here that a lot of people will often exaggerate, mislead, or be otherwise unreliable when recounting their version of events.
